Safwan companion of the prophet

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear Shaikh Burhan,

I want to know more about one of companions of the Prophet (SAW), Safwan (RAA) and his relations with either Prophet (SAW) himself or with other Companions (RAA) if so.

Jazakallahu Khair.

Answer:

Safwan companion of the prophet

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The Messenger of Allah (saws) had several companions by the name ‘Safwaan’; thus if you could make it clear by giving his full name, or any of his characteristics or deeds, we would be honored to give you more details about him, Insha Allah.

The most famous amongst them was Hadrat Safwan ibn Muattil (r.a.), who was slandered by the hypocrites along with Hadrat Aisha (r.a.).

Another was Hadrat Safwan ibn Ummayyah (r.a.), who was a leader of the disbelieving Quraish and at first a staunch enemy of the Messenger of Allah (saws) and his mission; and who subsequently after the Victory of Makkah embraced Islam.

If you could give us the full name or any of the characteristics he was famous for, we would be honored to give you more details about his relation with the Prophet (saws) and his companions.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
