Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

As-Salamu-Alykum.

Dear brother Burhan,

Allah has blessed me with a baby boy, and I have named him Ibrahim. My Name is Aarif Shaik S/O Chand Shaik. My question is what is naming sequence as per Isalm (Sunnah)

I mean what should be my son’s First Name, Middle Name and Last name. Being in Indian subcontinent I am concerned that the nomenclature we follow is not as per sunnah. Please advise.

Peace be upon you...

Answer:

Name of Child

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Respected brother, if your name is Aarif Shaik and you have chosen to name your son Ibrahim, then the correct sequence of names for your son would be ‘Ibrahim’ (First Name); ‘Aarif’ (Second Name); ‘Shaik’ (Third Name).

If you so wish your son could also be called Ibrahim Aarif or Ibrahim Aarif Chand….as long as your son is recognized or called by his biological father’s name, it would suffice to fulfill the Command of Allah Subhanah.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
