Answer:
Release wind during
prayer
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His
help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide,
and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear
witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear
witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His
Messengers.
Translation of the Question:
I have a question? Whenever I go for Umrah in
Ramadan, during the pilgrimage I happen to release wind, and I have to go again
and again to perform the ‘wudu’. Please
give me a solution. And sometimes during prayer I happen to release wind; and I
am standing in the middle rows and cannot leave the masjid to redo the ‘wudu’. Is my prayer acceptable or not? And what
should I do at that time? I do not have any medical ailment. Please help me
because I am planning to go for Umra after 5 days and this time Insha Allah I
will go for Hajj too.
Your
Question: Whenever I go for Umrah in Ramadan, during the pilgrimage I happen to
release wind, and I have to go again and again to perform the ‘wudu’. Please give me a solution.
The Umrah pilgrimage basically consists of two main rites:
- The
seven ‘tawaafs’ or circumambulation around the Kaaba.
- The
‘sai’ or walking between the mounts of Safa and Marwa.
It is absolutely obligatory to be in the state of ‘wudu’
when doing the ‘tawaaf’ of the Kaaba, during the pilgrimage or otherwise. If one happens to break one’s state of ‘wudu’
before one has completed the seven ‘tawaafs’, one should re-do the ‘wudu’ and
complete their remaining ‘tawaaf’ rounds.
The scholars and jurists in Islam are unanimous in their
opinion that one does not need to be in the state of ‘wudu’ when performing the
‘sai’ between Safa and Marwah.
Thus if one happens to release wind or break their ‘wudu’
after they have completed the seven ‘tawaafs’, and offerred the two-rakah
prayer after the ‘tawaafs’; one may complete the ‘sai’ rites without being in
the state of ‘wudu’.
Your
Question: And sometimes during prayer I happen to release wind; and I am
standing in the middle rows and cannot leave the masjid to redo the
‘wudu’. Is my prayer acceptable or not?
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah
Maidah verse 6:
6 O ye who believe! When ye prepare for prayer wash your
faces and your hands (and arms) to the elbows; rub your heads (with water); and
(wash) your feet to the ankles.
To be in the state of purity and ‘wudu’ is an absolute
pre-condition for any prayer to be acceptable in Shariah. If one has broken their state of ‘wudu’
during their prayers, it is absolutely obligatory for them to re-do the ‘wudu’
and perform the prayer again. A prayer
performed without being in the state of ‘wudu’ is absolutely unacceptable in
Shariah.
Your
Question: And what should I do at that time?
If one perchance happens to release wind and thus break
their ‘wudu’ while they are praying in congregation, they should immediately
leave the congregation, re-do the ‘wudu’ and offer the prayer again.
In the event that the masjid is absolutely full and one is
unable to leave the masjid to re-do their ‘wudu’, one should still leave the
prayer and the congregation and find themselves a place where they can wait
(near a pillar, at the end of a row, etc.) until the prayer in completed ….and
then re-do the ‘wudu’ and offer the prayer again. Under no circumstances should one who has
broken their ‘wudu’ continue their prayer with the congregation.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only
due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me
alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is
the Only Source of Strength.
