Answer:
Can one pierce her tongue?
In the name of Allah, We praise
Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none
can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.
We bear witness that there is no one (no idol,
no person, no grave, no
prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
It is absolutely permissible for
a believing woman to wear jewelry in Islam.
Because the piercing of the tongue was not done at the time of the Prophet (saws), there is no direct command in the Quran or Sunnah allowing or prohibiting such an act, thus it cannot be termed haraam or impermissible; and therefore it will be termed permissible.
It all depends on the intention of the believing woman why she wants to pierce her tongue. If such piercing of the tongue is a part of the culture of the land (like in some places in Africa), there is no harm; but if one pierces her tongue simply to emulate or copy the vogue or fashion of the pagans or disbelievers, then it would be considered impermissible in Islam.
Sunan of Abu-Dawood
Hadith 4020 Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar
The Prophet (saws)
said: “He who copies any people is one
of them.”
Whatever written of Truth and
benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error
is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He
is the Only Source of Strength.
