Wudu after camel meat and milk

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Dear Brother,

You said After Eating Camel's Meat we should perform Ablution, but what about its milk.. Do we have to perform wudu as well after drinking the milk?

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

Dear Brother, is it possible for us to know why our prophet sws asked us to perform wudu after eating camel meat? Also does the same ruling apply for drinking camel milk?

Thank you for your time.

Answer:

Wudu after camel meat and milk

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 184 Narrated by Al-Bara' ibn Azib

The Messenger of Allah (saws) was asked about performing ablution after eating the flesh of the camel. He (saws) replied: ‘Perform ablution, after eating it.’ He (saws) was asked about performing ablution after eating (other) meat. He (saws) replied: ‘Do not (there is no need to) perform ablution after eating it.’

Neither did the Messenger of Allah (saws) himself reveal the wisdom behind the command, nor did the noble companions ask him regarding the wisdom behind the command. Thus as regards the wisdom behind why exactly one is required to perform ablution after consuming camel meat, one is well within one’s rights to study, ponder, or conjecture…but the Truth regarding its wisdom is known to Allah and His Messenger (saws) alone.

Besides brother, there are quite a few scholars who do not agree with the qualification of the above quoted hadith which make ablution necessary after consuming camel meat, stating that the hadith is of weak authority. And Allah Alone Knows Best.

The scholars and jurists in Islam are absolutely unanimous in their opinion that one is not required to perform ablution after consuming camel milk.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
