Answer:

Despair depression lost hope in life

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 21 Surah Anbiyaa verse 35:

35 Every soul shall have a taste of death: and We test you by evil and by good (only) by way of trial: to Us must ye return.

Allah says in the Holy Quran in Chapter 67 Surah Al Mulk verse 2:

He (Allah) created death and life that He may test you, to see which of you is the best in deeds.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chaper 2 Surah Baqarah verses 155-157:

155 Be sure We shall test you with something of fear, and hunger, some loss in goods, or lives, or the fruits (of your toil); but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere.

156 Who say when afflicted with calamity: "To Allah we belong and to Him is our return."

157 They are those on whom (descend) blessings from Allah and Mercy; and they are the ones that receive guidance.

Dear and beloved Sister in Islam, whatever the state or condition of the trials you might find yourself in, know with total and absolute conviction that your state is no more than a trial and test from your Lord Most Gracious…..so that He may determine who amongst the sons of Adam are grateful when bestowed with His Favors, and who amongst them are ungrateful and impatient.

The life of this short and transitory world is simply not the place to exult in one’s abundance or to despair in one’s misery……the real place where one will be in perpetual bliss or in an eternal state of desperation and helplessness is only in the Hereafter!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 41 Surah Haa Meem verse 49:

49 Man does not weary of asking for good (things), but if (some) evil touches him, he gives up all hope (and) is lost in despair.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 29 Surah Ankabut verse 23:

23 Those who reject the Signs of Allah and the Meeting with Him (in the Hereafter), it is they who despair of My Mercy: it is they who will (suffer) a most grievous Penalty.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 11 Surah Hud verses 9-11:

9 If We give man a taste of Mercy from Ourselves and then withdraw it from him, behold! He is in despair and (falls into) blasphemy.

10 But if We give him a taste of (Our) favors after adversity hath touched him, He is sure to say "All evil has departed from me;" Behold! He falls into exultation and pride.

11 Not so do those who show patience and constancy and work righteousness; for them is forgiveness (of sins) and a Great Reward.

Dear and beloved Sister in Islam, perpetual depression and desperation is only for those who deny their Lord Creator and the Last Day; for it is they who despair of the Unending and Infinite Mercy of the Lord Who Created! A believer who sincerely believes in Allah and the Last Day can never never ever despair of the Mercy and the Grace of their Lord Most Merciful.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 39 Surah Zumar verses 53-54:

53 Say: "O my servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.

54 Turn ye to your Lord (in repentance) and bow to His (Will) before the penalty comes on you: after that ye shall not be helped.”

Dear and beloved Sister in Islam, never never ever despair of the Mercy of your Lord Most Merciful. Whatever state you find yourself in, good or evil, know and believe with absolute conviction that your condition is no more than a trial and a test ordained for you by your Lord, and He is Well-Aware of the exact condition of each of His slaves.

Keep your complete trust and belief in your Lord Creator, and whatever trials happen to befall you from your Lord, strive your utmost to bear them with patience and perseverance in the ardent belief that your Lord is Watching closely all that you do. At every stage and moment of your life, strive your utmost to bring your Lord to remembrance, unconditionally submit your will unto His, and at all times and in all conditions beseech and implore your Lord Most Gracious, in utter humility, awe, fear, and hope to bestow you with patience, and perseverance, and constancy.

Beloved Sister, we remind you as we remind ourselves, that no matter whatever condition and state you find yourself in in the life of this world, never never never ever despair of the Mercy of your Lord Most Merciful; submerge yourself completely in the doing of deeds which will earn you His Pleasure and His Good Will, and strive your utmost in abstaining from doing anything which will bring about His Wrath and His Anger…..for that alone is the Straight Path towards salvation.

Whenever you find the Shaytaan inviting you towards depression and desperation, immediately bring your Lord Most Merciful to remembrance, seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytaan, recite the Muawidaat (113 Surah Al-Falaq and 114 Surah An-Naas) and the ‘Aayat-ul-Kursi’ (Baqarah 2:255) as often as you can or is easy for you, and re-affirm your belief, trust and faith in your Lord Most Gracious…..it is expected that your Lord Will bestow His Blessings and His Mercies upon you and make your trial easy for you.

Although there are several supplications from the Quran and the Sunnah which one may make to get relief from anxiety, in our humble opinion amongst the best supplications are the ones made by the Noble Prophets of Allah, Prophet Yunus (a.s.) and Prophet Ayyub (a.s.) as related by Allah Subhanah in His Glorious Quran:

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 21 Surah Anbiyaa verses 87-88:

87 And remember Zun-nun (Yunus (a.s.)) when he departed in wrath: he imagined that We had no power over him! But he cried through the depths of darkness "There is no god but Thou: Glory to Thee: I was indeed wrong!"

88 So We listened to him: and delivered him from distress: and thus do We deliver those who have faith.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 21 Surah Anbiyaa verses 83-84:

83 And (remember) Ayyub when he cried to his Lord "Truly distress has seized me, but Thou art the Most Merciful of those that are merciful."

84 So We listened to him: We removed the distress that was on him and We restored his people to him and doubled their number as a Grace from Ourselves and a thing for commemoration for all who serve Us.

My dear and beloved sister, Allah is our witness, there is none with true faith who sincerely and humbly, in absolute awe, fear and hope beseeches and implores their Lord Creator, and their Lord Most Merciful does not respond to their supplication!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 186:

And if My servants ask you, O Prophet, concerning Me, tell them that I am quite near to them. I hear and answer the prayer of the suppliant, when he calls on Me. So let them respond to My call and believe in Me. (Convey this to them), perhaps they may be guided aright!

Salman reported that the Prophet (saws), said, "Your Lord, the Blessed and the Exalted One, is Modest and Generous, and He loathes to turn away His servant empty-handed when he raises his hands to Him in supplication."

Narrated by Ahmad and Ibn Hibban.

Thus in conclusion sister, whatever situation and trial you may find yourself in the life of this short and transient world, know and believe with absolute conviction that nothing, and we reiterate, absolutely nothing has the power to bring peace or contentment to hearts of man except the sincere Remembrance of their Lord Most High.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 13 Surah Raad verse 28-29:

The people who have accepted (the Message), their hearts find comfort in the remembrance of Allah. Note it well!, That it is Allah’s Remembrance Alone that brings contentment to the hearts! Blessed are those who have accepted the Message and done righteous deeds. They will have a good end.

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
