One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
Dear
Brother Burhan,
I
checked all the questions pertaining to Ramadan & fasting, but could not
find the answer to my question, Could you pls. tell if after having sexual
intercourse with one`s wife, is it o.k. to take ghusl after the time
of Fajr prayer? For example if one gets up late for Fajr prayer, but intends to
fast on that day?

Answer:
Fast with major impurity
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that
there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 3.153 Narrated by Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman
My father and I went to Aisha and she said,
"I testify that Allah's Messenger (saws) at times used to get up in the
morning in a state of Janaba from sexual intercourse, not from a wet dream, and
then he (saws) would fast that day."
Then he went to Um Salama (one of the wives of the Prophet (saws)) and
she also narrated a similar thing.
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 3.152 Narrated by Aisha
(At times) in Ramadan the Prophet (saws) used
to take a bath in the morning not because of a wet dream (but due to ceremonial
impurity of sexual intercourse), and he (saws) would continue his fast.
If one has sexual intercourse with one’s wife during one
of the nights of Ramadan, and happens to wake up after the Fajr prayer time has
elapsed, one should perform the ‘ghusl’ or full bath of purification, perform
the Fajr prayer, and continue their fast….for being in the state of ‘janaba’ or
ceremonial impurity by itself does not invalidate one’s fast in the least.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.

well wisher in Islam,
Burhan
