We must do wudhu before touching it

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

hello, aoa

me and my friend were discussin about islam, and he raised up a question which left us both thoughtful but without ani solution, i would like to ask you about it, he says, the islamiyat books we use in our school, they offcourse have surahs in them and verses from the holy quran in english and stuff and all, and so we must do wudhu before touching it, then i said how can it be possible that everytime one has to do when its just a book, he said then why do we do wudhu when we hold the namaz book? (the one from which we learn namaz and its method) and the same method is also in our book... i was just queit then, as i wasn`t sure, but offcourse it is reasonable that these books are made in order to help us and if one exerts his decision he can find out that not everybody can always go to do wudhu, wat about in school ? however but he has a valid point as well, and i want to know if we are sinful because of this or not? but according to the well knwoen surah of quran, Surah baqarah:256 " let there be no compulsion in relegion" one can say there are chances that he dont hav to do wudhu and but offcourse in these cirmustamnces one is helpless... so help me out regarding this case,

Allah hafiz

Answer:

Wudu touch quran

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: i want to know if we are sinful because of this or not?

That this is a Glorious Quran, inscribed in a well-guarded Book, which none can touch, except the purified.

Although the above aayah is meant to state how the Quran is honored by the noble Angels in the heavens; the scholars have opined that just as the Quran is honored in the heavens by the Angels, so should it be honored on the earth…. And thus, one, who sincerely believes in Allah and the Last Day, should touch the Glorious Quran only when one is pure and clean, and preferably when in the state of wudu.

The majority of the scholars are of the opinion that if one touches a book other than the Quran, or a newspaper article, or any letter, etc. which may contain some verses or phrases of the Glorious Quran in its text, there is neither a requirement in Shariah, nor is necessary, nor is there any sin if one touches it without being in the state of wudu.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
