Prophet(saws) prayers for Chief Hypocrite

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalam-o-alaikum,

I have a question. Dear sir I am working in a Government Organization and often my colleagues discuss about Islamic points. Some days ago my colleague told the incident which I did not heard before. It was:

“It was about a MUNAFIQ (Abdullah Bin Ubi). My colleague said that when he was died, his NAMAZ-E-JANAZA was not offered by any one afterwards Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) offered his NAMAZ-E-JANAZA. And my colleague said that Hazrat Umer forbade the Holy Prophet (PBUH) to pray the NAMAZ-E-JANAZA. On offering the NAMAZ-E-JANAZA, WAHI NAZIL HUI that he (Abdullah Bin Ubi) is a MUNAFIQ that’s why he cannot be forgiven.”

The point is in my mind is that when the Holy Prophet requests the Allah to forgive (as in NAMAZ-E-JANAZA there are lot of pray for the died person) the died person. According the above incident, will the above mentioned person (Abdullah Bin Ubi) not be forgiven as the Holy Prophet himself preyed for him? Allah also has said that MAIN NABI KI HAR KHAWAHISH KO POORA KAROON GA.

So please solve this problem according to the Holy Quran and Hadith.

Thank you so much.

Regards

Answer:

Prophet Prayer for chief Hypocrite

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 9 Surah Taubah verses 73-80:

73      O Prophet!  Strive hard against the Unbelievers and the Hypocrites and be firm against them.  Their abode is hell an evil refuge indeed.

74      They swear by Allah that they said nothing (evil), but indeed they uttered blasphemy, and they (the Hyprocrites) did it after accepting Islam; and they meditated a plot which they were enable to carry out: this revenge of theirs was (their) only return for the bounty with which Allah and His Messenger had enriched them!  If they repent it will be best for them; but if they turn back (to their evil ways) Allah will punish them with a grievous penalty in this life and in the hereafter: they shall have none on earth to protect or help them.

75      Amongst them are men who made a covenant with Allah that if He bestowed on them of His Bounty they would give (largely) in charity and be truly amongst those who are righteous.

76      But when He did bestow of His Bounty they became covetous and turned back (from their covenant) averse (from its fulfillment).

77      So He hath put as a consequence, hypocrisy into their hearts (to last) till the Day whereon they shall meet Him: because they broke their covenant with Allah and because they lied (again and again).

78      Know they not that Allah doth know their secret (thoughts) and their secret counsels and that Allah knoweth well all things unseen?

79      Those who slander such of the believers as give themselves freely to (deeds of) charity, as well as such as can find nothing to give except the fruits of their labor, and throw ridicule on them, Allah will throw back their ridicule on them: and they shall have a grievous penalty.

80      Whether thou (O Prophet (saws)) ask for their forgiveness or not (their sin is unforgivable): if thou ask (even) seventy times for their forgiveness Allah will not forgive them: because they have rejected Allah and His Messenger; and Allah guideth not those who are perversely rebellious.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah Nisaa verse 145:

145    The hypocrites will be in the Lowest Depths of the Fire: no helper wilt thou find for them.

The crime of hypocrisy is so hated and so despised by Allah Subhanah, that He has guaranteed that those who die in the state of hypocrisy will be condemned to the Lowest Depths of the Hell Fire; even lower than the mushriks (polytheists) and the kaafirs (disbelievers)!  Such is the severity of this crime of hypocrisy in the Sight and Justice of Allah Subhanah.

Your Question: According the above incident, will the above mentioned person (Abdullah Bin Ubi) not be forgiven as the Holy Prophet himself preyed for him?

It is indeed true that Abdullah ibn Ubayy was the leader of the hypocrites of Madinah, and he left no stone unturned in betraying the Cause and the Mission of the Noble Messenger of Allah (saws).

A short while after the Tabuk Expedition, Abdullah ibn Ubayy died.  His son, Abdullah ibn Abdullah ibn Ubayy was a sincere believer, and he came to the Prophet (saws) and humbly requested the Prophet (saws) to give him his (saws’s) shirt so that he may use the Prophet’s shirt as a burial shroud for his father.  Although the deceased was a hypocrite and a severe enemy of the Messenger of Allah (saws), the Messenger of Allah (saws) did not refuse the request of Abdullah, and generously gave his own shirt to be used as a burial shroud for the deceased hypocrite.  Then Abdullah humbly requested the Prophet (saws) to lead his father’s funeral prayer, and the Prophet (saws) agreed and was just about to lead the funeral prayer when Hadrat Umar (r.a.) very respectfully requested the Prophet (saws) repeatedly not to offer prayers of forgiveness for a person who was such an ardent enemy of Islam all his life!  But the Prophet (saws), who was sent as a mercy to the worlds, was generous and merciful even with his staunchest enemies, and it is reported that he (saws) offered the funeral prayers of the hypocrite, Abdullah ibn Ubayy.

It is reported that it was at this time that Allah Subhanah revealed the verse of Surah Taubah that henceforth prohibited the Prophet (saws) to seek forgiveness for anyone who dies in the state of hypocrisy!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 9 Surah Taubah verse 84:

And in the future, you (O Prophet (saws)) should never ever offer (funeral) prayers for anyone from amongst them (the hypocrites) who dies, nor (even) stand at his grave; for they have denied Allah and His Messenger and died while they were transgressors!

In light of the guidance of the Glorious Quran and the Sunnah, it is safe to assume that Abdullah ibn Ubayy, the ringleader of the hypocrites of Madinah, will not be forgiven, even though his burial shroud may happen to be the shirt of the Messenger of Allah (saws), or even though the Messenger of Allah (saws) himself sought his forgiveness from Allah Subhanah, or even though the Messenger of Allah (saws) himself offered his funeral prayer!   Such is the severity and abomination of the crime and sin of hypocrisy in the Sight of Allah Subhanah!

Your Statement: Allah also has said that MAIN NABI KI HAR KHAWAHISH KO POORA KAROON GA.

Whatever Allah Subhanah has Said has reached us either through his Revealed Books or through His appointed Prophets, and Allah is our witness, there is absolutely nothing in the Glorious Quran nor in the authentic and established Sunnah whereby Allah Subhanah has Declared that ‘He will fulfill every desire or wish of the Prophet’;  and never ever did the Prophet (saws) ever claim that Allah Subhanah is bound by his desires or wishes!

This statement is a self-invented and wishful thought which has been falsely ascribed and attributed to Allah Subhanah, the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth and everything that exists in between.  He does whatever He Wills and Desires and is not bound by absolutely anyone and anything.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
