Marriage of Imam Hussains daughter

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

My question is that when Imam Hussain (s.a) was on the battle field in karbala in such a critical situation why did he perform the nikah of maulatona Sakina? After the nikah it is bieng said that Maulatona Sakina and Maulana Abdulla were having intimate conversation with each other, how is that reasoned in such a critical situation of karbala? They were so young at their age, how did they understand "what is marraige"? Please forgive me for any mistakes in my questions, i will wait for the answers.

Answer:

Marriage of Imam Hussain’s daughter

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His  forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

This episode of Imam Hussain (r.a.) marrying his 3-4 year old daughter Sakina to 9-10 year old Hadrat Abdullah ibn Hassan (r.a.), is not found in any authentic book of Islamic History.

It is highly unlikely that this marriage occurred, because it is a requirement of Shariah that one can only be married after he reaches the age of puberty; and it would be ignorant of us to believe that the noble and pious grandson of the Messenger of Allah (saws), Imam Hussain ibn Ali (r.a.) would violate any of the commandments or conditions of Shairah.

The whole episode around this supposed marriage of Hadrat Abdullah (r.a.) and Hadrat Sakina binte Hussain (r.a.) seems mysterious, to say the least! The same people who claim that this marriage indeed occurred, also narrate that Imam Hassan ibn Ali (r.a.) wrote a letter before his death to his son Abdullah, and told him to open it only when he was in the greatest difficulty of his life!!!!! Apparently, when Hadrat Hussain (r.a.) would not allow Hadrat Abdullah, because of his young age, to fight Jihaad against the enemies in Karbala, Abdullah took this refusal as the greatest difficulty of his life….. and remembered his late father’s words, and opened the letter which his father had given him! And this letter, which apparently Hadrat Hassan (r.a.) wrote long before the Battle of Karbela, was in fact a letter of recommendation to Hadrat Hussain (r.a.) to give permission to Hadrat Abdullah to fight Jihaad in Kerbala!!!!! On seeing the letter of his beloved brother, Imam Hussain (r.a.) too remembers his own promise he had made to his late brother, that he would marry his daughter Sakina to Abdullah, and this is how the marriage supposedly occurred!

The above is what is normally related by some minority sects in Islam regarding the marriage of Sakina binte Hussain (r.a.)….. but this fantastic story is not found in any authentic book of Islamic History!

If one just uses his basic wisdom and common-sense, he would realize that it would be impossible and blasphemous to claim that Hadrat Hassan (r.a.) had the ‘knowledge of the unseen’ regarding the Battle of Karbala, regarding the unseen knowledge of most difficult point in his sons life, regarding the unseen knowledge of the refusal of Hadrat Hussain (r.a.) to give Abdullah permission to fight Jehad, etc.!!! The events of Karbala occurred many years after the death of Hadrat Hassan (r.a.), and it is absolutely against the guidance of the Holy Quran to believe that someone other than the Being of Allah Subhanah has the knowledge of the unseen!

This story of the marriage of Sakina in the Battlefields of Karbala is probably the imagination of some unscrupulous narrators, who fabricated quite a few incidents in the History of Islam.

Example:

They claim that Hadrat Hussain (r.a.) threw the blood of his 6-month old son Hadrat Ali Asghar (r.a.) after he was martyred into the sky, and not a drop of blood touched the ground, but Allah Subhanah raised the blood into the Heavens!

They claim that Hadrat Sakina (r.a.), held the foot of the horse when Hadrat Hussain (r.a.) was going into Battle in Karbala, and the horse spoke to Hadrat Hussain (r.a.)!

They claim that Hadrat Jibrael (a.s.) came to Hadrat Hussain (r.a.) at the time of his martyrdom and offered to crush the enemies between the mountains, if Hadrat Hussain (r.a.) gave him the permission!

The above are only a few examples of the fantastic stories some unscrupulous narrators claim …. These occurrences are fabricated, unnatural, illogical, and have absolutely no relation to reality or Truth!

And Allah Alone Knows Best!

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
