Superstitions
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum
wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
(May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has
asked this question:
Bismillah,
Are these superstitions:
-Eating 3 of anything(3 fish sticks, 3
breads, 3 apples, etc.) at the same time, will disable
girls to have babies.
- If the back of your necklace(the part
where the hook is so you can close the necklace) is meeting the front of your
necklace( the main focus of the necklace) then the person you like is thinking
about you.
I have another question: i know you`re supposed to cut your nails, when they grow, but can`t they be just a little bit
long? If yes, the how long, or short?
And another question: how are you supposed to get disinterested in someone
from the other gender that you may like? Please help. Jazaak
Allah Kheir

Answer:
Superstitions
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that
there is no one (no idol, no person, no
grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Your Question: Are these superstitions: -Eating 3 of anything(3 fish sticks, 3 breads, 3 apples, etc.)
at the same time, will disable girls to have babies.
Eating any number of food items at the same time has absolutely no implications on the birth or anything else; the above is nothing but a superstition, and superstitions have absolutely no place in the deen of Islam!
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 42 Surah Shuraa verses 49-50:
49 To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills (and plans). He bestows (children) male or female
according to His Will (and Plan).
50 Or He bestows both males and females, and He leaves barren whom He
will: for He is Full of knowledge and power.
To believe that anything other than Allah Subhanah Alone has control or power over the birth of children, is to share the Exclusive Powers of Allah Subhanah with someone or something else! The one who believes in such superstitions would be guilty of a manifestation of the heinous crime of ‘shirk’.
Your Question: - If the back of your necklace(the
part where the hook is so you can close the necklace) is meeting the front of
your necklace( the main focus of the necklace) then the person you like is
thinking about you.
The above again is a superstition, and superstitions have
absolutely no truth, or logic, or place in the deen of Islam.
Your Question: I have another question: i
know you`re supposed to cut your nails, when they
grow, but can`t they be just
a little bit long? If yes, the how long, or short?
The cutting of nails is a clean and natural act, and something which
is known as Sunnat-al-fitrah or the way of
nature.
To grow nails is against the natural Sunnah or way and
thus not something which is encouraged in Islam. The Prophet of Allah (saws) gave injunctions
to the believers, men and women, to cut their nails, not to grow them.
Your Question: And another question: how are you supposed to get
disinterested in someone from the other gender that you may like? Please help.
It is natural or ‘fitrah’ for a male to be attracted to a non-mehram female, or vice versa; and there is absolutely no harm if one happens to be attracted to a non-mehram person of the opposite gender, as that would encourage them to get married.
But if for any reason, one is attracted to a person of the
opposite gender who is already married, or to a person to whom marriage is not
permissible, or to a person one has absolutely no intention of marrying, or for
any other reason whatsoever; this would be deemed illegal attraction and one
should fear Allah and strive to stay within the boundaries declared by Allah
and His Messenger (saws). If one
remembers that such an attraction or interest would be displeasing to Allah
Subhanah, and strives to forget the person; Allah Subhanah will give a huge
reward to such a person for his/her obedience.
It is only ‘taqwa’ or the fear
of displeasing the Merciful and Benevolent Lord that would help one get
disinterested from doing anything that incurs the Wrath and Anger of the Lord
of the Worlds.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Brother in Islam,
