Payback loan on interest.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Asalm alykm

My question is I took a loan with interest from the bank one year ago, at that time I knew interest is not allowed but I took a loan.

I haven't paid back the loan, initially I wasn't able to repay but now I can repay but am scared to be involved in interest issue.

And if I don't repay the bank might take me to court. What should I do?

Answer:

Payback loan on interest

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Respected brother, in such a situation, you will be obliged to pay back the loan you have taken from the bank and then make a solemn covenant with your Lord Creator that you will never ever involve yourself in the evil of ‘riba’ or anything which has been declared unlawful again.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
