Assalamalaikum.

May Allah reward you for sharing your knowledge about Islam and Hadith.JazakAllah..

Wishing you a very happy Islamic New Year.--is it correct in Islam to wish each other the Islamic New Year ???

I was in Kuwait during Ramadan and we went to Pray the Eid ul Fitr Namaz- It was a Friday-after the Eid prayers there was the Qutba-after the Qutba, the Imam announced that there will be no Jumma prayers in the mosque.

I asked a few people why there will be no Jumma Prayers in the Mosque- I was informed that there cannot be Two Qutba in the same Mosque in one day.!!!!.

Some one told me that this Correct-

In my view this is only a coincidence that an Eid happens to be on a Friday, and we Offer the Eid Prayers in Congregation and later we Offer the Jumma prayers in Congregation.

Please guide me with reference to Qumran and Quran.

Answer:

Eid on friday

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 1068 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

The Prophet (saws) said: ‘Two festivals (EId and Friday) have synchronized on this day. If anyone does not want to offer the Jumuah prayer, the EId prayer is sufficient for him. But we shall offer the Jumuah prayer.’

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 1066 Narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas

Ata' ibn AbuRabah said: ‘Ibn az-Zubayr (r.a.) led us in the EId prayer on Friday early in the morning. When we went to offer the Jumuah prayer, he did not come out to us. So we prayed ourselves alone. At that time Ibn Abbas (r.a.) was present in at-Ta'if. When he came to us, we mentioned this (incident) to him. He (Ibn Abbas (r.a.) said: ‘He (Ibn az-Zubair’ (r.a.) has followed the Sunnah.’

The Friday mid-day sermon and prayer or Jumuah is absolutely obligatory on every sane, adult, resident, believing male; but in the event that one of the two Eids (Fitr or Adha) falls on the blessed day of Friday, the Messenger of Allah (saws) gave the option and concession to the believers who had offered the Eid prayers to not attend the Jumuah prayers, if they did not wish to do so….the Eid prayers they had offered would suffice for them.

But if one wishes to offer both the Eid prayers as well as the Jumuah mid-day prayers, there is absolutely no harm, and they would have their due reward for their worship from their Lord Most High.

The believers who wish to exercise the option and attend only the Eid prayers on Friday, should pray the normal 4-rakah ‘dhuhr’ prayers if they choose not to attend the Jumuah or Friday mid-day sermon and prayer.

Your Question: I asked a few people why there will be no Jumma Prayers in the Mosque- I was informed that there cannot be Two Qutba in the same Mosque in one day.!!!!.

To the best of our knowledge there is no such restriction in Shariah which prohibits the offering of two ‘khutbas’ in one mosque on the same day.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
