One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Ascribing false things to Almighty Allah, or his Prophet or to the successors of the Holy Prophet., what does this mean? can you give examples please.

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

Ascribing false thing to Allah and prophet(saws)

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Ascribing false things to Allah and His Messenger (saws) means to invent something oneself (a statement, a law, an act, a rite of worship, anything….) and attribute that falsehood to Allah and His Messenger (saws). Allah is our witness sister, there are only a handful of sins bigger in the Sight of Allah Subhanah than this!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam Verse 144:

Who does more wrong than one who invents a lie against Allah to lead astray men without knowledge? For Allah guides not people who do wrong.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraf Verse 37:

37 Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah or rejects his signs?

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 29 Surah Ankabut Verse 68:

68 And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah or rejects the Truth when it reaches Him? Is there not a home in Hell for those who reject faith?

Examples of attributing a lie to Allah Subhanah:

Example 1: Claiming that Allah Subhanah has a father, a wife, or a son!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 9 Surah Taubah Verse 30:

30 The Jews call Uzair a son of Allah and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah! That is a saying from their mouths; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah's curse be on them! How they are deluded away from the Truth!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 19 Surah Maryam Verses 88-92:

88 They say: "(Allah) Most Gracious has begotten a son!"

89 Indeed ye have put forth a thing most monstrous!

90 At it, the skies are ready to burst, the earth to split asunder, and the mountains to fall down in utter ruin!

91 That they should invoke a son for (Allah) Most Gracious.

92 For it is not consonant with the Majesty of (Allah) Most Gracious that He should beget a son!

Example 2: The disbelievers invent their own rites of rituals which would include indecency and shameful acts….so much so that in the days of ignorance some pagans, men and women alike, would perform the ‘tawaf’ around the Kaaba in a naked state, and claim that Allah Subhanah had Commanded them to do so!!!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraaf Verse 28:

28 When they do aught that is shameful they say: "We found our fathers doing so"; and "Allah commanded us thus": Say (O Prophet (saws)): "Nay!!! Allah never commands what is shameful! Do ye say of Allah what ye know not?"

Example 3: The Jews and Christians claimed that they were so loved by Allah that a) they would never be condemned to Hell Fire, and b) if one amongst them was perchance condemned to the Hell Fire because of his evil deeds, it will only be for a period of time and then they would ultimately be taken out! (Unfortunately this exact same false belief has crept into the Muslim Ummah today!!! Just because they claim to believe, they will never be condemned to the Hell Fire; and if perchance because of their evil deeds they are condemned to Hell, they will ultimately be taken out just because they claim to follow the Last and Final Messenger of Allah (saws)!!!!)

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah Verses 70-81:

79 Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands and then say: "This is from Allah" to traffic with it for a miserable price! Woe to them for what their hands do write and for the gain they make thereby.

80 And they (the Jews and Christians) say: "The Fire (of Hell) shall not touch us but for a few numbered days"; Say (O Prophet (saws)): "Have ye taken a promise from Allah for He never breaks His promise? Or is it that ye say of Allah what ye do not know?"

81 Nay!!! Those who seek gain in evil, and are girt round by their sins, they are Companions of the Fire! Therein shall they abide (for ever).

Similarly, every invention and innovation made in the deen of Islam after the death of the Last and Final Messenger (saws) is a falsehood which the ignorant have invented and attributed that rite or ritual of worship to the Messenger of Allah (saws)….regardless of whether it be ‘quran khaani’, the commemorations of ‘shabe-baraat’, or ‘milad-an-Nabi’, ‘gyarvi shareef’, etc. Every single innovation in the deen of Islam is an error and a grave sin in the Sight of Allah Subhanah!

The Mother of the believers, Hadrat Aisha (r.a.) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said: ‘If somebody innovates something which is not present in our religion, then that thing will be rejected.’

Sahih Muslim Hadith 1885 Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah

That the Prophet of Allah (saws) said in a sermon: “The best speech is that which is embodied in the Book of Allah, the Al Quran; and the best guidance is the guidance given by me, Mohamed (saws). The most evil affairs are the innovations (bida), and every innovation (bida) is an error.”

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4515 Narrated by Ali ibn AbuTalib

That the Prophet of Allah (saws) said: “If anyone introduces an innovation (bida in religion), he will be responsible for it. If anyone introduces an innovation (bida) or gives shelter to a man who introduces an innovation (bida), he is cursed by Allah, by His Angels, and by all the people!”

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.109 Narrated by Salama

I heard the Prophet (saws) saying, "Whoever (intentionally) ascribes to me what I have not said then (surely) let him occupy his seat in Hell-fire."

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
