Trials of the month of safar.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalam-o-alaikum.

I hope you are absolutely fine by the grace of Almighty Allah.

I need some reference from the Holy Quran and from the Ahadeeth regarding the Holy Month of Safar. I have heard that it is a kind of a tough month when Muslims should do Astaghfar for their sins. Also it is said that different kind of problems and difficulties can surround a person in this month, if he acts carelessly.

Answer:

Trials of the month of safar

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 7.608 Narrated by Abu Huraira

Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘(There is) no 'Adwa (no contagious disease is conveyed without Allah's permission), nor is there any bad omen (from birds), nor is there any Hamah, nor is there any bad omen in the month of Safar, and one should run away from the leper as one runs away from a lion.''

In the days of ignorance before the advent of Islam, the pagans used to believe that the month of Safar was a difficult month and that it carried evil omens…..with the advent of Islam and the Truth, the Messenger of Allah (saws) clarified that no day or no month carries any evil omens and declared such self-invented superstitions and false beliefs absolutely baseless.

Every day, every week, every month, every year belongs to Allah Subhanah, and there is no day, or week, or month or year which in itself is inherently evil or tough or brings with it evil omens or bad luck…..these are absolute superstitions based on absolute falsehoods and the believers are guided to fear Allah Subhanah and His Day of Tribunal rather than such self-invented and absolute falsehoods.

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
