was born for a man among us, and the man named him Al-Qasim. We said to him,

Answer:
Name Qasim
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His
help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide,
and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear
witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear
witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His
Messengers.
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.205 Narrated by Jabir
A boy was born for a man among us, and the
man named him Al-Qasim. We said to him, "We will not call you Abu-l-Qasim,
nor will we respect you for that." The Prophet (saws) was informed about
that, and he said, "Name your son 'Abdur-Rahman."
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 8.206 Narrated by Jabir
A man among us begot a boy whom he named
Al-Qasim. The people said, "We will not call him (i.e., the father) by
that ‘Kuniya’ (Abul-Qasim) till we ask the Prophet (saws) about it. The Prophet (saws) said, "Name
yourselves by my name (Mohamed), but do not call (yourselves) by my ‘Kuniya’
(Abul-Qasim)."
The Messenger of Allah (saws) neither forbade nor
prohibited the believers from assigning the names Mohamed or Qasim to their
offspring, but the Prophet (saws) specifically forbade the believers to call or
address anyone by his ‘kuniya’ of ‘Abul-Qasim’ (father of Qasim).
Thus a person whose name is Mohamed should avoid naming
his eldest son Qasim so as to avoid being associated with the ‘kuniya’ of ‘Abul
Qasim’ which is specific to Prophet Mohamed (saws).
Thus brother, if you have named your son ‘Mohamed’ or
‘Mohamed Qasim’ there is absolutely no harm; and the believers should be
careful never to address or call someone by the ‘kuniya’ of the Prophet Mohamed
(saws), ie. Abul-Qasim.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only
due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me
alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is
the Only Source of Strength.
Your brother and
well wisher in Islam,
