One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

I have joined a center where I have memorized juzaa amma and tabarak Alhamdolellah, and now i had to stop for the summer vacation and we will resume on september inshallah with juzaa Almojadala. my question is; shall i use my free time and start memorizing surat al baqara in this summer or I shall I memorize juzaa al mojadala which I will repeat again with my colleagues after the vacation ?Because I heard that better to keep the sequence in order to not get confused. Please advise me and I want also to know if there is a duaa to help memorize Al Quraan Al Adhim

Jazak allah kheiran

Answer:

Sequence of quran memorization

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Statement: Because I heard that better to keep the sequence in order to not get confused.

Dear and beloved Sister, there is no particular sequence recommended for one who wishes to memorize the Glorious Quran; if one wills and pleases, one may start with the small surahs of Juza Amma and work their way backwards….or if one wills and pleases, one may start with the first Surah and work their way forwards. It is entirely upto the individual and what is easy and convenient to him/her.

Most memorization institutes prefer to start with the small surahs of Juza Amma, so that the student gets a feeling of encouragement that he/she has succeeded in memorizing a several number of Surahs; for if they were to start with the longest Surah of the Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah, even if one has memorized many pages, one would get the feeling that not even one of the Surahs of the Quran has yet been memorized.

In your particular case, although you may very well start the memorization of Surah Al-Baqarah if you so wish; in our humble opinion it would only be prudent that you use this spare time to constantly revise the two chapters you have already memorized, and if you wish to memorize additional Surahs, continue with your sequence and start the study of Juzaa Al-Mojadila, which when you repeat with the other students after your vacation, it would be easier for you to continue.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 6.552 Narrated by Abu Musa

The Prophet said, "Keep on reciting the Qur'an (which you have memorized to heart), for, by Him in Whose Hand my life is, Quran runs away (is forgotten) faster than camels that are released from their tying ropes!"

Your Question: I want also to know if there is a duaa to help memorize Al Quraan Al Adhim

Dear and beloved Sister in Islam, what can be a bigger dua or supplication for one who has made an intention and taken the efforts to memorize the Glorious Book of Guidance of their Lord? Your intention to memorize the Glorious Quran, and your efforts taken to fulfill your intention are themselves commendable and meritorious.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 6.459 Narrated by Aisha

The Prophet (saws) said, "Such a person as recites the Qur'an and masters it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Paradise)!

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 6.545 Narrated by Uthman

The Prophet (saws) said, "The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it."

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2137 Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "If anyone recites a letter from Allah's Book he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a tenfold reward. I do not say that 'Alif-Lam-Mim' are one letter, but 'Alif' is a letter, 'Lam' is a letter. and 'Mim' is a letter."

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 1448 Narrated by Mu'adh al-Juhani

The Prophet (saws) said: ‘If anyone recites (and memorizes) the Qur'an and acts according to its contents, on the Day of Judgment his parents will be given to wear a Crown, whose light is better than the light of the sun in the dwellings of this world if it were among you. So what do you think of him who acts according to this?’

Beloved Sister in Islam, in absolute humility, hope, and fear….constantly beseech and implore your Lord Most Gracious to bless you to fulfill the magnificent intention you have undertaken to memorize His Book, and bestow upon you His Mercy, and grant you with the courage and the wisdom and the steadfastness to not only memorize the Glorious Quran, but to implement every dictate of its wise counsel into your life.

Although you may supplicate your Lord Most Gracious in your own language and in your own words, two amongst the best supplications you could constantly make are:

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 20 Surah Taha verse 114:

114 High above all is Allah, The King, The Truth! Be not in haste with the Qur'an before its revelation to thee is completed, but say "O my Lord! Advance me in knowledge."

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 20 Surah Taha verse 25-27::

25 (And Moses) said: "O my Lord! Expand for me my breast;

26 Ease my task for me;

27 And remove the impediment from my speech.”

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
