I have a question regarding symbolism.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Asallum who alakum brother. I have a question regarding symbolism. A cousin of mine, showed me some marks one each of my hands which represent arabic numbers. There should be a V ( arabic for the number 8) ,and a 1 (arabic for one) enscribed in each of your hand, and he told me that when you add the two numbers together you get a number 9 one each hand, so you end up with the number 99 when your put your hands together to pray which represents the 99 names of Allah. I observed other peoples hands and they also had this. Is there a verse in the Quran which explains this or is this just coincidantle? Please respond as soon as you can.

Your brother in Islam,

=====

Regards

Answer:

Markings on hands palmistry

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

There is absolutely no evidence in the Quran or the Sunnah or even in science that the natural lines or folds on the palms have any particular wisdom, knowledge, predictions, or meanings. When Allah and His Messenger (saws) have not advised us, nor encouraged us to search for knowledge and meanings hidden in the natural folds and lines of one’s palms, it does not behove and befit a believer to play guessing games and/or make predictions based on such frivolous occurrences.

In their urge to decipher or seek something of the knowledge of the future, ignorant people have tried every trick in the book, from palmistry to the movement of the stars, from the way a worm crawls to the crossing of a cat, etc.; and the Shaytaan has made it fair-seeming to them to believe in such absolute nonsense! The believers are content with the firm belief that none in the Universe has any knowledge of the future except the One and Only Majestic Lord of the Worlds.

Your Statement: There should be a V ( arabic for the number 8) ,and a 1 (arabic for one) enscribed in each of your hand, and he told me that when you add the two numbers together you get a number 9 one each hand, so you end up with the number 99 when your put your hands together to pray which represents the 99 names of Allah.

Tell the person who ‘invented’ this tall-tale that a ‘V’ represents or looks like the number 7 in Arabic and not the number 8, and ask him why should one add these numbers and not subtract, or multiply or divide them!

The Truth is brother, whether the numbers are inscribed or hidden on our hands or not, the Noble Names and Attributes of our Lord Most Majestic are clearly inscribed and explained in detail in the Glorious Quran. Rather than trying to run after ignorance like reading the palms or the movement of the stars, it would be beneficial for one to read the Glorious Message of their Lord with understanding and faith, and try to recognize their Lord Most Supreme through His mentioned Noble Names and Attributes and the innumerable Signs from His supreme creations.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 17 Surah Israa verse 110:

Say: "Call upon Allah or call upon ‘Ar-Rahmaan’: by whatever name ye call upon Him (it is well): for to Him belong the Most Beautiful Names.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraaf verse 180:

The Most Beautiful Names belong to Allah: so call on Him by them

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
