Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa
Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
Assalam-o-alykum,
please
tell me the method of turning the hair of head.is it from centre or vertically
upward.some tell that it is sunnat that one should turn his hair from centre
(called mang) and other tell that it is sunnah not to turn hair neither from
centre nor from any corner.but it is to turn vertically upward.
(There may be some grammatical and spelling
errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from

Answer:
Parting of the hair
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that
there is no one (no idol, no person, no
grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4177 Narrated by Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin
When I parted the hair of the Messenger of
Allah (saws) I made a parting from the crow of his head and let his forelock
hang between his eyes.
Al-Muwatta Hadith 51.3
Yahya related to me from Malik that Ziyad ibn
Sad heard Ibn Shihab say, "The Messenger of Allah (saws) let his hair hang
down his forehead as Allah willed, and afterwards he parted it."
The Messenger of Allah (saws) initially let his hair hang
down and later also parted it, thus both are from amongst his (saws) Sunnah and
permissible for the believers.
The important thing to note here, as is the principle in
all matters of appearance in Islam, that every style of appearance is
permissible except that which have been specifically prohibited by Allah and
His Messenger (saws). The styles of
appearance which have been specifically prohibited are:
- The
style of appearance should not be a copy or imitation of the pagans and
disbelievers.
- The
style of appearance should not be a copy or imitation of women (for men),
and men (for women); ie. Men should not imitate the styling of women; nor
should women imitate the styling of men.
- The
style of appearance should not be a display of arrogance.
If any of the above three principles are not violated, one
may keep any style of hair one wishes.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.
Your brother and well wisher in Islam,
Burhan
