Disobedient to parents and still paradise

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

hello,

the quran says there are 7 doors to heaven, 7 ways to get to heaven.

one of them is through the obedience of parents.

if someone does not get along with his/her parents, can he/she choose to go to heaven through performing other deeds besides parents obedience.

Please don`t send me verses or hadiths that highlight the importance of parents and their obedience.

Just tell me if one can get to heaven through a door other than thru parents` obedience and if there are any verses or hadiths that back this statement.

Thanks for your help,

Answer:

Disobedient to parents and still Paradise

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Statement: the quran says there are 7 doors to heaven, 7 ways to get to heaven.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 4.479         Narrated by Sahl bin Sad

The Prophet (saws) said, "Paradise has eight gates, and one of them is called ‘Ar-Rayyan’ through which none will enter but those who observe fasting."

The Glorious Quran is silent regarding the exact number of gates to Paradise; but there are several authentic narrations of the Prophet (saws) who mentioned that Paradise has Eight Gates.

Your Statement: one of them is through the obedience of parents.

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 4928        Narrated by Abud Darda

When a man came to him and said, "I have a wife whom my mother commands me to divorce," he replied to him that he had heard Allah's Messenger (saws) say, "A parent is the best of the gates of Paradise; so if you wish, keep to the gate, or lose it!"

Not only does the obedience of parents lead the believer to a gate of Paradise, the Messenger of Allah (saws) mentioned that it leads to one of the ‘Best’ gates of Paradise!

Your Statement: Please don`t send me verses or hadiths that highlight the importance of parents and their obedience.

Dear and Beloved Sister in Islam, there are just so many commands in the Quran and the Sunnah regarding the due importance of the obedience to parents in Islam; but since you have specifically instructed us not to quote you any verses or hadiths regarding this subject, we will try to obey your instructions.

Your Question: Just tell me if one can get to heaven through a door other than thru parents` obedience and if there are any verses or hadiths that back this statement.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 3.821         Narrated by Anas

The Prophet (saws) was asked about the ‘Grave Sins’, and He (saws) replied, "They are:--

(1 ) To join others in worship with Allah,

(2) To be undutiful to one's parents,

(3) To kill a person (which Allah has forbidden to kill)

(4) And to give a false witness."

Second only to the absolute gravest sin and abomination of ‘shirk’ (associating others with Allah Subhanah) in gravity of sins in the Sight of Allah Subhanah is the disobedience to parents!

Even if one has been disobedient and undutiful to one’s parents all their life, if they turn back to Allah in repentance seeking His forgiveness, and amend their conduct with their parents….it is expected that they will find their Lord Forgiving and Merciful.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imraan verse 135-136:

Allah likes such good people very much, who,  if ever they commit a base deed or wrong their own soul by the commission of a sin,  remember Allah instantly,  and ask for forgiveness from Him for their shortcomings.  For who but Allah, can forgive sins?   (And Allah loves those) who do not knowingly persist in the wrongs they did.   These will be rewarded with forgiveness from Allah, and with Gardens beneath which canals flow, and they will reside therein forever!   How excellent is the reward of those who do good deeds!

But if after knowing the gravity of the sin, one knowingly persists in being disobedient and undutiful to ones parents and death overtakes him in that state, then his case and decision is with Allah Subhanah Alone.

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 4941        Narrated byAbu Umamah

A man said, "O Messenger of Allah (saws) what rights can parents demand from their children?"  He (saws) replied, "They are (or your relation with them will determine) your Paradise and your Hell!"

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 3653        Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr

The Prophet (saws) said, "An undutiful son, a gambler, one who casts up what he has given, and one who is addicted to wine will not enter Paradise."

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 3655        Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "There are three people to whom Allah has forbidden Paradise: one who is addicted to wine, an undutiful son, and a cuckold who agrees to his womenfolk's adultery."

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 4933        Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "He who casts up the favours he has done, he who is disobedient to parents, and he who is addicted to wine will not enter Paradise."

Sahih Muslim Hadith 6189     Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘Let him be humbled into dust!  Let him be humbled into dust!’  It was said: ‘O Allah's Messenger (saws), who is he?”  He (saws) said: ‘He who sees either of his parents during their old age or he sees both of them, but he does not enter Paradise!’

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone.  Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
