Mossa worked for Girls father/Mehr
Mu' meneen Brothers
and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa
Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be
upon all of you)
One of our
brothers/sisters has asked this question:
To whom does mohar money belong, the bride or her father? I heard it belongs to bride, but then why did moosa (a.s) work for his father-in-law for 8 years?
(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)
Answer:
Does Mehr belong to the Bride or
the Father?
In the name of Allah, We praise
Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none
can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.
We bear witness that there is no one (no idol,
no person, no grave, no
prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
The ‘mehr’ or dowry is the sole
right of the bride; unless, she of her own will gives that right to someone of
her choice.
Allah Subhanah says in
the Holy Quran Chapter 28 Surah Qasas verses 26-27: Said one of the
(damsels): "O my (dear) father! Engage him on wages: truly the best of men for thee to employ is
the (man) who is strong and trusty"...
He said: "I intended to wed one of these my
daughters to thee on condition that thou serve me for eight years; but if thou
complete ten years it will be (grace) from thee. But I intend not to place thee under a difficulty: thou wilt find
me indeed if Allah wills one of the righteous."
The condition of Prophet Shuaib
(a.s.) on Prophet Musa (a.s.) was obviously with the permission of his
daughter, and thus was valid and legal.
Whatever written of Truth and
benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error
is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He
is the Only Source of Strength.

Islam,
Burhan
