Salat with guidance from book

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

As salaam alaykum Brother,
May Allah (swt) bless you for your hard work and generosity in helping your brothers and sisters.
I am a new revert to Islam, al hamdulillah. I am trying to learn my prayers and memorizing them in the process. However, in the meantime, I am using a "Guide to Salat" book that outlines the process, the duas, and the other facets of the prayer along the way for each rakat. I am able to do most of the prayer independently but I do require guidance from the book for certain parts. My question is: is it okay to hold the book and use it as a guidance during salat whenever I need it?
Your response will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,

Answer:

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Brother the fard salah must be prayed through memory only. Since only a few verses of the Quran are required to be memorized, and small one line duaas for ruku and sujood it is necessary to memorize the same and make yourself available for prayers.

For the nafl prayers you can use any book for assistance and there is no restrictions for that.

May Allah swt make your reversion easy and grant you ajr ul azeem. Our heartiest congratulations to you on receiving guidance to the truth of Islam. This is the greatest gift one can receive from Allah swt.. So hold it dear and strive your utmost to increase your ilm of the Quran and make your imaan strong. Remember every true believer is an ambassador of Islam. Therefore establish your obligatory prayers in their prescribed times, read the Glorious Quran in a language you understand, fast during Ramadhan, pay the zakah due, always tell the truth, never break the promises you make, do not give false witness, keep good righteous company and do good deeds always.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
