Delay in marriage after engagement

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
assalam. m very distrurbed. m engaged from three years.... n still dont know whats in the mind of my inlwasand whats god wills. n they decide for our marriage but they are unable to take any action on iiiit.. if they decide by allah willl then is that by allah wills only they are not able to take any action on it ??.. n someone told my fiancee that if u stop speaking to each other you will get married.. but talking from three years hw can we do that..

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Sister the truth is there is no relevance of engagement in a Muslim marriage. If they are not serious about the marriage be bold enough to give them an ultimatum any start looking ahead as otherwise one fine day you will find out that your man is marrying someone else. There are many pebbles on the beach. Keep your full trust in Allah swt and make supplications to him. InshaAllah soon you will find a better man who will love and cherish you with dignity and respect that you deserve. You should never talk to a non-mehram man without the presence of a member of your family. Best is let your parents search for a suitable match for you. That will be best and most appropriate.
