Why does the book use the name "Satanic Verses"?

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

I read the following from an abstract of an article:

Q. Why does the book use the name "Satanic Verses"?

The title refers to a passage which was said to once form part of the Qur`an and was later obliterated from the sacred scripture. The claim goes that when the Qur`an was being handed down to the prophet a piece at a time, a piece came down to recognise the Gods of the prophet`s opponents. The claim continues to assert that after a while the prophet declared these verses to be of satanic origin and that they are to be replaced by other verses of divine origin.

This is derived from a book by a man named Salman Rushdie.

Can you please verify this, How can thier have been satanic verses in the Qur`aan.

What is the faith of someone who makes such claims, such as Salman Rushdie.

Jazak Allaah Kheir.

Answer:

Satanic verses salman rusdie

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: Can you please verify this, How can thier have been satanic verses in the Qur`aan.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 41 Surah Haa-Meem verses 40-42:

40 Those who pervert the Truth in Our Signs (Verses, Revelations, etc.) are not hidden from Us. Which is better? He that is cast into the Fire or he that comes safe through on the Day of Judgement? Do what ye will: Verily He Sees (clearly) all that ye do.

41 Those who reject the Message when it comes to them (are not hidden from Us); and indeed it (The Quran) is a Book of Exalted Power.

42 No falsehood can approach it from before or behind it: it is sent down by One Full of Wisdom, Worthy of all Praise.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 56 Surah Waqiah verses 75-87:

75 Furthermore I call to witness the setting of the Stars

76 And that is indeed a mighty adjuration if ye but knew!

77 That this is indeed a Qur'an, Most Honorable

78 In a Book well-guarded

79 Which none touch but those who are pure (ie. the Angels of Allah):

80 A Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.

81 Is it such a Message that ye would hold in light esteem?

82 And have ye made it your livelihood that ye should declare it false?

83 Then why do ye not (intervene) when (the soul of the dying man) reaches the throat?

84 And ye the while (sit) looking on

85 But We are nearer to him than ye, and yet see not

86 Then why do you not if you are exempt from (future) account

87 Call back the soul if ye are true (in your claim of Independence)?

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 81 Surah Takweer verses 10-28:

10 When the Scrolls are laid open;

11 When the World on High is unveiled:

12 When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat;

13 And when the Garden is brought near

14 (Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward.

15 So verily I call to witness the planets that recede

16 Go straight or hide;

17 And the night as it dissipates

18 And the dawn as it breathes away the darkness

19 Verily this (Quran) is the Word (brought by) a most honorable Messenger (Hadrat Jibrael (a.s.))

20 Endued with Power and with Rank before the Lord of the Throne

21 With authority there (and) faithful of his trust.

22 And (O people!) your companion (Prophet Mohamed (saws)) is not one possessed;

23 And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon.

24 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen.

25 Nor is it (The Quran) the Word of an evil spirit accursed.

26 Then whither go ye?

27 Verily this (Quran) is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds:

28 (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight.

Dear and Beloved Brother in Islam, Allah Subhanah, the Lord, Creator and Cherisher of everything in existence is our Witness, the Glorious Quran is, without an iota of a doubt, the very Words of Allah Subhanah Himself. It is in the very nature of this Glorious Book of Allah that ‘no falsehood can approach it’ from any angle whatsoever for Allah is our witness, it has been revealed by the One Who is Full of Wisdom, Worthy of All Praise!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 41 Surah Haa-Meem verse 42:

42 No falsehood can approach it from before or behind it: it is sent down by One Full of Wisdom, Worthy of all Praise.

The claim made by the author of the ‘Satanic Verses’ that some verses of the Glorious Quran (the Book of Divine Guidance whose authenticity is guaranteed by none other than Allah Subhanah, the Lord of the Worlds, Himself) have originated from the Shaytaan, are just precisely that: claims….which have absolutely no basis to the truth or reality!!! The claim is no more than a blasphemous, unauthenticated, adulterated and un-substantiated theory of the imagination of an unscrupulous and evil mind who dares to hold this Glorious Revelation of Allah in light esteem, and in an effort to earn a paltry livelihood invented brought forth an abominable and blasphemous claim against the Truth and Authenticity of the Glorious Quran!!!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 56 Surah Waqiah verses 80-82:

80 (The Quran is) A Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.

81 Is it such a Message that ye would hold in light esteem?

82 And have ye made it your livelihood that ye should declare it false?

Rest assured brother, that leave alone the accursed Shaytaan none have the power or be able to bring about the likes of a Verse of the Glorious Quran, the evil and coward Shaytaan cannot even approach this Glorious Book of the Lord!!!!

Allah Subhanah Alone Suffices to take revenge from those who strive to discredit His Revealtions.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 34 Surah Saba verse 5:

As for those who strive hard to discredit Our Revelations, for them is a painful torment, most humiliating.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 22 Surah Hajj verses 49-51:

(O Mohamed) say: “O people, I am merely a warner who informs you plainly.” So those who believe and do righteous deeds shall have forgiveness and an honorable provision. And those who will strive to discredit Our Revelations, shall become the dwellers of Hell.

Your Question: What is the faith of someone who makes such claims, such as Salman Rushdie.
Beloved brother, faith or ‘emaan’ is the condition of one’s heart, and the condition of the hearts are known to none save the One Who Alone is The All-Knowing, All-Wise. Allah Subhanah has not given a human being the power to go into another persons heart and determine his/her faith!

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 2526 Narrated by Anas ibn Malik

The Prophet (saws) said: “Three things are the roots of faith:

  1. to refrain from (killing) a person who utters, "There is no god but Allah"
  2. and not to declare him unbeliever whatever sin he commits,
  3. and not to excommunicate him from Islam for his any action.’

As far as this worldly life is concerned, human beings and believers in particular will accept whatever faith one verbally declares to belong to…..it is Allah Subhanah Alone Who will Declare and Decide on the Day of Judgement whether the claim of faith of each individual was indeed genuine or a falsehood, and will thus accordingly take those whose faith was genuine into His Mercy and Grace and inflict His Wrath, Anger and Revenge on those who were liars.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
