Syednas Promise to Paradise

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

one of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Brother, I have read several of your q&as, and I feel almost all of what you see if from the guidance of the Quran. Now, I have a question which I am really confused about and hope you will be able to address it for me, giving me evidence from the Holy Quran. I have been to several ‘waaz’ of Syedna, and he has sworn in public in the name of Allah that he will do shafaa for the Bohras on the Day of Judgement and that he will lead all Bohras to Paradise. I was wondering what is your opinion, and what does the Quran say, about that statement of Syedna Mohamed Burhanudeen (TUS).

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

Syedna’s Promise to Paradise

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The decision of who deserves the Mercy of Allah and thus Paradise, and who is to be thrown into the everlasting punishment of the Hell Fire, lies in the Hands of Allah Subhanah Alone! And the criteria described by Allah in the Holy Quran to make this decision is to be the deeds of each individual. Whoever believed and did righteous good deeds according to the guidance sent by Allah, will deserve His Mercy and Forgiveness; and whoever rejected the guidance and followed another way, will be taken to a severe account. Allah declares in the Holy Quran that no one has any special claim to Paradise. No one!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Al Baqarah verse 111-112: The (Jews and Christians) say: “None shall enter Paradise unless he be a Jew or a Christian.” These are their wishful fancies! Say to them, “Bring your evidence if you are right in your claim!”. The fact is that no one has any special claim to Paradise! Whoever surrenders himself to Allah in obedience, and is a doer of good deeds, shall have his reward with His Lord. There shall be neither fear nor grief for such people.

There is no human being on this planet earth, who can vouch that he will go to Paradise; leave alone making promises to take someone else with him! Anyone who really fears Allah and the Last Day, would never make such a ridiculous claim. If he really feared Allah and the Last Day, he would fear about what will happen to himself on that Tumultuous Day, as even the Prophets of Allah feared!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 46 Surah Ahqaaf verses 8-9:Do they(the disbelievers) mean to say that the Messenger has himself fabricated it (the Quran)? Say to them: “If I have fabricated this myself, you will not be able to save me from Allah’s punishment! Allah knows full well whatever you utter. He is enough as a witness between me and you, and He is the All Forgiving, All Merciful.” Also say to them: “I am not a novel Messenger. I do not know what shall befall you tomorrow, nor what shall befall me! I only follow that which is revealed to me, and I am no more than a plain warner.”

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anaam verse 15-16:Say (O Mohamed), “I do fear the torment of a (dreadful) Day, if I should disobey my Lord.” He who will be delivered from the torment of that Day, will have received Allah’s Mercy, and this is a supreme success.

If even a Prophet of Allah of the stature and position of Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws) feared the torment of that Dreadful Day and does not know what exactly will befall him, can you imagine a mere, normal, weak, human being of this day and age, making such ludicrous and preposterous claims; that he will take all his followers into Paradise with him, and make shafaa for them? The person neither has the authority to make such promises, nor has the power to fulfill any of his false promises, nor will he be able to respond when his followers who trusted his promises, look for him on that Inevitable Day!

All Power and Strength rests with Allah Subhanah Alone! There is no Power and no Strength except with Allah Alone, the Lord of the Worlds!

Ref: Shafaa

There are several aayahs concerning ‘shafaa’ in the Holy Quran, and due to brevity, we will relate only a few of them.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 6 Surah Anam verse 94: (And Allah will say), “So, you have come before Us all alone, as We created you at first. Now, you have left behind all that We gave you in the world. Now We do not see with you those ‘shufa’a’(intercessors), who, you believed, had a share in molding your destinies! All the relations between you and them have been cut off, and all those, in whom you trusted, have left you in the lurch.”

A leader promises his followers that he will do shafaa for them in the Court of Allah. And Allah declares in the above aayah to these followers that they will be brought to the Court of Allah alone, and all those ‘shufaas’ in whom they had trusted their destinies, will be nowhere to be seen! That is because Allah Himself has cut off their relationships, and all those ‘shufaas’, whom the followers served all their lives, have left them in the lurch when they needed them most!

Whose words and promises are going to come true? Allah’s or this Syedna’s?

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 48: And guard yourselves against the Day when no one shall avail anyone else; nor shall ‘shafa’a’ (intercession) be accepted from anyone; nor shall anyone be acquitted for any amount of ransom; nor shall the guilty ones be helped from any quarter.

The leader promises that he will do intercession with Allah. And Allah guides the people to guard and fear the advent of a Day when no one shall help anyone else, nor shall any ‘shafaa’ be accepted from anyone, nor shall the one who is guilty be acquitted for any amount of ransom!

Whose words and promises are going to come true? Allah’s or this Syedna’s?

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 10 Surah Yunus verse 18: These people worship beside Allah those which can neither harm nor benefit them, and say, “These are our ‘shofa’a’ (intercessors) with Allah!” O Mohammed, tell them, “Do you wish to inform Allah of that thing which He knows to be neither in the heavens nor in the earth?” He is absolutely free from, and exalted above the shirk that they commit.

The leader promises intercession and the followers believe him whole-heartedly. Allah ridicules such notions and commands His Prophet (saws) to tell such blind followers… that do they wish to inform Allah of something of which He, the All Knowing, All Wise, is unaware of? Those who use the modem of intercession to invoke Allah are indeed the ones who commit the heinous crime of ‘shirk’! And Allah is absolutely free and far exalted above the shirk that these people commit!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 40 Surah Mumin verse 18: O Prophet, warn them of the Day that has approached near, when the hearts will leap up to the throats and the people will be standing mute, grief-stricken; and the wrong-doers will neither have any kindly friend nor any ‘shafaa’ (intercessor) who may be listened to.

A leader promises ‘shafaa’ to his followers in the name of Allah! The same Allah commands His Prophet (saws) to warn the people of the Day so dreadful and so terrible, that at the sight of that Day, the hearts of the people will leap upto their throats and everyone will be gathered and standing in pin-drop silence in the Awe and Majesty of the All Mighty Lord! And on this eventful Day, the wrong-doers will not have any kind friend, nor any intercessor who may intercede for them. This will be the condition of the people on the Day of Qiyaamah; and there are some people who make promises that they will intercede!!!!

Whose words and promises are going to come true? Allah’s or this Syedna’s?

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 40 Surah Mumin verse 47-48:Then imagine the time when these people will be disputing with one another in Hell. The weak ones will say to the haughty ones, “We were your followers! Now, can you save us from some part of our punishment in Hell?” The haughty ones will say, “We are all in the same state here, and Allah has already passed judgment between His servants.”

Allah draws a picture of the times that are going to come…. When the leaders who promised, and the followers who believed their promises and served them all their lives, will be disputing and blaming each other for their state in the Fire of Hell! Allah says the followers will remind their leaders that they followed them and served them all their lives in hope for their help and intercession, which they did not deliver! The leaders will declare their helplessness, and can do nothing but ask them to bear the everlasting punishment with them in Hell with them!

Whose words and promises are going to come true? Allah’s or this Syedna’s?

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah verse 116-118: Allah will say, “O Jesus, son of Mary, did you ever say to the people, “Make me and my mother deities besides Allah?” Jesus will say, “Glory be to You! It did not behove me to say that thing which I had no right to say. Had I ever said such a thing, You would most surely have known it, for You know all that is in my mind, but I do not know what is in Your mind. Indeed, You have full knowledge even of all the hidden things. I never told them anything other than what You bade me. I said, ‘Worship Allah, Who is my Lord as well as your Lord.’ I was a witness to their conduct as long as I remained among them, but when You recalled me, You watched over them: for You keep over everything. Now, if You punish them, they are Your own servants, and if You forgive them, You are the All Powerful and All Wise.”

There are billions and billions of Christians who believe that Prophet Jesus was crucified as an atonement of their sins! Here Allah relates the scene that will happen on the Day of Judgment, where Jesus will deny all the false hopes and inventions his supposed followers did in his name after him. Jesus will humbly declare his submission to Allah.

Some muslims have chosen their own ‘shufaas’ from among the Prophet (saws), and his noble ‘ahle-bayt’ and his noble companions! Do you seriously think that they will say anything other than what Jesus has replied in his above statement? And Jesus (a.s.) is indeed one of the mightiest Prophets of Allah. The shufaas that some muslims have served all their lives and in their graves, are not even close to the stature and position of Prophet Jesus! Do you honestly believe that this Syedna can deliver what a Prophet like Jesus could not deliver in the Supreme Court of Allah?

Whose words and promises are going to come true? Allah’s or this Syedna’s?

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 39 Surah Zumar verses 44:What! Have they taken besides Allah others as ‘shofa’a’ (intercessors)? Say to them, “Will they intercede even if they have no power whatever nor understanding?” Say, “Shafa’a is wholly in the Power of Allah Alone!”. His is the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth. Then to Him you will be returned.

This leader promises his followers that he has the power to make ‘shafaa’! In the above aayah, Allah solemnly declares that Shafaa is wholly in the Power of Allah Alone!

Whose words and promises are we to believe? Allah’s or this Syedna’s?

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraaf verses 52-53:We have brought to these people a Book which gives details based on knowledge and which is a guidance and blessing for those who believe. Now, are these people waiting for anything other than the consequence of which they have been warned in the Book? When the consequence will come before them, those very people who aforetime had disregarded it, will say, “Indeed, the Messenger of our Lord had come with the Truth. Shall we have, then, any ‘shufaa’ who will intercede for us? Or could we be sent back that we might do deeds different from those we did before?” They have, indeed, incurred heavy loss upon themselves, and all the false things they had invented have forsaken them today.

The people who are looking for short-cuts to Paradise are the ones who have relied on these false promises made to them by some unscrupulous leaders! But when the consequences which Allah warns the believers in the Glorious Quran, ie. The Day of Judgement, will come, the wrong doers will immediately realize the calamity which is about to befall upon them! They will now realize that indeed the Prophet Mohamed (saws) had come with the True Message. Everything that Allah and His Messenger (saws) promised have come true on this tumultuous Day, and every promise made by others have proven false! They will immediately start praying in regret and remorse to go back to the world and do deeds according to the guidance of Allah and His Messenger (saws)! They will look for those ‘shufaa’ who had promised them intercession, but they will not be found! All the false things that they had invented in this worldly life, all the false hopes they had put on some unscrupulous leaders who promised them Paradise, all the deeds that they had done to please these unscrupulous leaders in hope of their intercession, everything, will have forsaken them on the Day when they needed it most! And they will not be able to blame anyone except themselves, for the folly that they practiced in the name of Islam on earth!

When they were asked to follow the guidance of the Holy Quran in their life, they rejected it, because they had taken out an insurance policy with their leaders who promised them intercession and direct access to Paradise!!

When they were urged to read, understand, obey and follow the teachings of the Glorious Quran, they scoffed and cursed the people who invited them to the Truth. They believed, served and followed their leaders blindly, in the hope that that was the way to Paradise!!!

When they were told by the believers to turn to the Holy Quran for guidance, they ridiculed them that they had no ‘shufaas’ like they did, who have promised to help them on the Day of Judgement!

They persisted in their disbelief, until they saw the events unfold exactly as were promised by Allah and His Messenger (saws). All the promises made by Allah and His Messenger (saws) will come true to the last letter…. And all the promises made by anyone else will be proven false and baseless….

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah An-Nisa verse 122:The promise of Allah is true, and who can be truer in his word than Allah?

Thus brother, the decision is yours! You either believe in what Allah says in the Holy Quran, or you take the promises of a human being, who has no authority to make such ridiculous claims in the first place!

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 18 Surah Kahf verses 103-106:Tell them (O Mohamed), “Should We tell you who are the most unsuccessful people and miserable failures in regard to their deeds? They are those, all whose endeavors in the worldly life, had gone astray from the Right Way, but all along they were under the delusion that everything they were doing, was rightly directed! Those are the people who rejected the Revelations of their Lord and did not believe that they would ever go before Him. Therefore all their deeds were lost, for We shall assign no weight to them on the Day of Resurrection. Their recompense is Hell for the disbelief they showed, and for the mockery they adopted in regard to My Aayahs and My Messengers!”

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 18 Surah Kahf verse 29:Proclaim, “This (Quran) is the Truth from your Lord: now whosoever wills may accept it, and whosoever wills may reject it.” (As for those who reject it) We have prepared for such workers of iniquity a fire whose flames have encircled them. There, if they ask for water , they will be given a drink like the dregs of oil, which will burn their mouths! What an evil drink, and what an evil abode!

Your Question: I was wondering what is your opinion, and what does the Quran say, about that statement of Syedna Mohamed Burhanudeen (TUS).

My opinion is of no importance, unless it is based on the Glorious Quran! I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction, giving you ample evidence of what the Holy Quran says about the statements and promises made by Syedna Mohamed Burhanudeen, and the likes of him!!!

Brother, you have heard the promises of the Syedna. Is it not time yet to read and understand the promises that Allah has made for all mankind in His Revelation, the Al Quran? Brother, we invite you to read and understand this Supreme Guidance of Allah, and then decide for yourself what path you want to take to the Lord of the Worlds:

The Path shown by Allah and His Messenger (saws), or,

The path shown by someone, other than Allah and His Messenger (saws).

From Allah we have all come, and to Him is our ultimate return!

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
