One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
Salaam,
I would like to know ,is it permissible for us to eat ,wich we know is from
haram money?now hmdl is ramadan but there is a pakistanish mosque where there
is iftar, but the money of the food comes from nightshops where alcohol and
other haram things are sold,i asked there the imam and he comfirmed,i dont know
how much money is from haram things, because this money comes from pakistanish
people who gave as sadaqa, but many of these peolpe have nightshops,so is it
halal for me ,because the food itself is halal, and i get it in a halal way,or
is it also haram for me?because i red two things, one is that our prophet saw.
used to accept food from the jews, wich they earned in a haram way,but the food
itself was halal, but i also red that abu bakr ra. put his fingers in his mouth
to throw up the food, because he found out that money of the food was earned in
a haram way,i think it was from sihr.please answer me soon with the knowledge
that allah swt blessed you with insha allah,wa 3alaykom salaam wrwb.

Answer:
Iftaar food with
unlawful haraam money
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His
help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide,
and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear
witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear
witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His
Messengers.

Firstly, if you are offered food by any believer, you are
not required to ask or determine whether the food presented to you by your
believing brethren is from halaal or haraam income. Because a believer presented the food to you,
it would be your duty to honor your believing brethren and assume that the food
is from lawful sources. If indeed the
food presented by the believer is from unlawful sources, the blame and the sin
would be borne by the believer who presented it, not the believer who consumed
it.
But if you have good reason to believe or are absolutely
convinced that the food presented to you is from unlawful sources, it would be
akin to piety that you fear Allah and abstain from consuming such food.

If you are absolutely convinced and have good reason to
believe that each and every penny contributed to present the ‘iftaar’ was
earned from unlawful sources, it would be akin to piety on your part that you
fear Allah and abstain from consuming such food.
But if you happen to have prior knowledge that some people
who contributed towards the ‘iftaar’ earn their livelihood from unlawful
sources and some people from lawful sources, then you may consume the food
assuming that the food you consume is the one which was earned lawfully.
We reiterate again that if any food is presented to a
believer by their believing brethren, they are not permitted to question or ask
their believing brother whether the food is from lawful sources or not….such a
investigation would be akin to humiliating and dishonoring their believing
brother.
Only and only if one has prior knowledge or has absolutely
good reason to believe that the food being presented is from unlawful sources,
one would be permitted to abstain from consuming such food.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only
due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me
alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is
the Only Source of Strength.

well wisher in Islam,
