One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
Assalam-o-Alaikum
i have
to get married right after Eid-ul-Fitr, i need to build house, my mother says
we must not start building in month of Muharram and Safar. she wants to start
the construction in Rabi-ul-Awal.
is she
right ? is there anything special in starting in Rabi-ul-awal and is there
anyting bad if we start it now in muharram or safar ? according to my plans it
must be started now as it takes long to complete, for which i don`t have time.
kindly
reply in detail .. Thanks

Answer:
Build house in moharram
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that
there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Every moment of every day and every night belongs to Allah
Subhanah, and there is absolutely no prohibition or restriction in Shariah if
one wishes to start doing anything lawful on whichever time of the day or
night, or whichever day of the week, month, or year one wills and pleases.
We assure you in the Blessed Name of Allah that there is
absolutely nothing in the Quran or the Sunnah which declares that the
commencement of anything lawful in the month of Muharram (or any other month
for that matter) is discouraged or prohibited….nor is there any encouragement
or merit in starting the commencement of something lawful in the month of ‘Rabi
al-Awwal’ (or any other month for that matter)!
Some ignorant sects and people insist and persist in
mourning the death of the noble and beloved grandson of the Prophet (saws),
Hadrat Hussain ibn Ali (r.a.) almost 1400++ years after his noble martyrdom in
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 2.371 Narrated by Zainab bint Abi Salama
I went to Um Habiba, the wife of Prophet
(saws), who said, "I heard the Prophet (saws) saying, 'It is not lawful
for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for any dead person
for more than three days, except for her husband, (for whom she should mourn)
for four months and ten days'."
In their ignorance of the law, these sects discourage the
believers from doing anything joyous till the 20th of Safar, which
would mark 40-days after the day of Ashura or 10th of Muharram, the
anniversary of the day on which Hadrat Hussain (r.a.) attained martyrdom!
Beloved brother in Islam, we absolutely assure you in the
Blessed Name of Allah Subhanah that these are self-imposed restrictions of the
ignorant upon themselves and have absolutely nothing to do, nor in accordance
with the guidance of Truth of Allah and His Messenger (saws).
If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and
commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws),
one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any
other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be
assured of being led astray.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.
Your brother and
well wisher in Islam,
Burhan
