Answer:

Significance of surah fatihah

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 15 Surah Hijr verse 87:

87 And We have bestowed upon thee the ‘Seven Oft-Repeated (verses)’ and the Grand Qur'an.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 6.227 Narrated by Abu Huraira

Allah's Messenger (saws) said, "The Um (substance) of the Qur'an is the Seven Oft-Repeated verses (i.e. Surat-al-Fatiha)."

Allah Subhanah has termed the ‘Surah Al-Fatihah’ as the Seven Oft-Repeated Verses, and the Messenger of Allah (saws) commanded and guided the believers and made it absolutely obligatory to recite this beautiful Surah in every rakah of every prayer, without which the prayer would be deemed invalid.

Ibadah ibn as-Samit related that the Prophet (saws) said, "There is no prayer for one who does not recite the opening of the Book. (Surah al-Fatihah)."

Related by Bukhari, Muslim and others.

Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet (saws) said, "Whoever prays a prayer and does not recite the opening chapter of the Qur'an (Surah Al-Fatihah) has not prayed correctly."

Related by al-Bukhari, Muslim and Ahmad.

Allah is our witness sister, that no person who walked on this planet earth understood the Commands of the Lord or implemented its guidance better than the Last and Final Messenger of Allah, Mohamed ar-Rasool Allah (saws); and to the best of our knowledge there is absolutely no evidence in the authentic and established Sunnah of the Prophet (saws) that other than reciting the Surah Al-Fatihah in every single rakah of every prayer, he (saws) recited this Surah for any other specific purposes like:

  1. sending its ‘sawaab’ to others;
  2. or reciting it before consuming food or drink;
  3. or doing any rite or ritual for ‘tabarruk’!!!!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Surah Ahzab verse 21:

There is indeed the best example for you to follow in the Messenger of Allah, for every such person looks forward to Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much.

Sahih Muslim Hadith 1885 Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah

That the Prophet of Allah (saws) said in a sermon: “The best speech is that which is embodied in the Book of Allah, the Al Quran; and the best guidance is the guidance given by me, Mohamed (saws). The most evil affairs are the innovations (bida), and every innovation (bida) is an error.”

Beloved Sister in Islam, when performing any act of worship in Islam, it is absolutely imperative that those who sincerely fear Allah and the Last Day must, and we reiterate must, follow the example of the Messenger of Allah (saws)! If the Messenger of Allah (saws) endorsed an act of worship, then without a doubt it would constitute worship which is acceptable to Allah; and if the Messenger of Allah (saws) did not endorse that act as worship, then without an iota of a doubt, it would not constitute worship….but a self-invented innovation in the Sight of Allah Subhanah; and every single innovation in the pure and perfect deen of Islam is a manifest error and a sin in the Sight of the Lord.

Aisha narrated that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said: ‘If somebody innovates something which is not present in our religion, then that thing will be rejected.’

Related by Bukhari.

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4515 Narrated by Ali ibn AbuTalib

That the Prophet of Allah (saws) said: “If anyone introduces an innovation (bida in religion), he will be responsible for it. If anyone introduces an innovation (bida) or gives shelter to a man who introduces an innovation (bida), he is cursed by Allah, by His Angels, and by all the people!”

Reciting the Surah Al-Fatihah or any other Surahs of the Glorious Quran with the intention of sending its ‘sawaab’ to others (living or dead!), or making it a ritual to recite the Surah Al-Fatihah before consuming food; or inventing rituals for ‘tabarruk’ which are not endorsed by the Messenger of Allah (saws)…..are all innovations which have absolutely no basis or evidence in the authentic and established Sunnah…thus they should immediately be rejected by those who sincerely fear Allah and the Last Day.

If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of being led astray.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
