Answer:
Valid reasons for breaking fast
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that
there is no one (no idol, no person, no
grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah
Baqarah verse 185:
185 Ramadan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an as a guide
to mankind also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (between right and
wrong). So everyone of you who is
present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but
if anyone is ill or on a journey the prescribed period (should be made
up) by days later. Allah intends every
facility for you He does not want to put you to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed
period and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be
grateful.
The two valid reasons which Allah Subhanah has permitted
as a mercy to the believers for breaking or not keeping their fasts is if their
health does not permit them to worship their Lord, and if one has to travel to
a distant land for any reason. Allah
Subhanah has facilitated the believers who have a valid excuse to miss or break
their fast, and make up the missed fasts at any other time after Ramadan.
There are other things like the menstruation of women, or
sexual intercourse, or the intentional ejaculation from one’s private parts, or
intentional vomiting, etc. which would break and nullify one’s fast; but here
one does not have an option whether one should keep one’s fast or break it, but
if any of these above acts happen or are committed, the fast will be
immediately broken and nullified.
One may very well keep their fasts even if they are ill or
on a journey, but if they have any fear that the fasts would bring them undue
hardship, or that their health may deteriorate, or that the journey would
become too cumbersome during the fasts, etc.; Allah Subhanah from His Sublime
and Infinite Mercy has as an allowance permitted the believers to break or miss
their fast in these genuinely trying conditions, and make them up later without
losing any of its due reward.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.

Islam,
Burhan
