Do Surah Fatiha cure for diseases? do ever Prophet(saw) and his campanions used Quranic verses specially Surah Fatiha for curing sick? and took reward of goats? Is there sound evidence from authenticated hadiths? One of the brother claim to me that i dont believe that Sahaba(ra) and prophet(saw) took reward of goats for curing a person effected by insect bite by Surah Fatiha? What is the reality of the matter? What should be believe and follow about "shifa" in Quranic verses?
Please answer this question

Assalamoalikum

with refernce to the hadith qouted below i want to ask my question ....

Volumn 007, Book 071, Hadith Number 632.

-----------------------------------------
Narated By Abu Said Al-Khudri : Some of the companions of the Prophet came across a tribe amongst the tribes of the Arabs, and that tribe did not entertain them. While they were in that state, the chief of that tribe was bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion). They said, (to the companions of the Prophet), "Have you got any medicine with you or anybody who can treat with Ruqya?" The Prophet`s companions said, "You refuse to entertain us, so we will not treat (your chief) unless you pay us for it." So they agreed to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them (the Prophet`s companions) started reciting Surat-al-Fatiha and gathering his saliva and spitting it (at the snake-bite). The patient got cured and his people presented the sheep to them, but they said, "We will not take it unless we ask the Prophet (whether it is lawful)." When they asked him, he smiled and said, "How do you know that Surat-al-Fatiha is a Ruqya? Take it (flock of sheep) and assign a share for me."

when i read this Hadith, it gave a wrong sense to me and i was like how it is possible that rasool sallalaho alah-e-wasallam not only appreciated them but also ask for his share in whatever they earned by curing that person by receiting Quranic verse......is in`t opposite to the personality of our beloved Nabi Muhammad sallalaho alayhe-wasallam??

As far as i know with my least knowledge is that all sort of waziifaat , tawizaat, reading certain surah or Ayah certain number of times etc ... and all peer faqirs who use to give Quranic ayaats and surah for solving problems... all these things are forbidden and are considered Biddah in Islam.. and even sometimes considered shirk (Allah knows best)..... but with this hadith many ppl could argue that our rasool didn`t forbid it coz it is reported in authentic hadith ... Please clarify this thought .. and also Is it possible that any authentic hadith could also be wrong ??? as it a work of human being and there is always chances of error in human work

Answer:

Recite Quran for Ailment Illness Cure

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Your Question: Do Surah Fatiha cure for diseases? do ever Prophet(saw) and his campanions used Quranic verses specially Surah Fatiha for curing sick?

The main purpose of the Divine Revelation of the Quran was not to cure physical ailments of mankind, but rather the Glorious Message of the Quran was revealed by the Lord Most Merciful as a complete Guidance to the ‘Straight Path’ or the approved ‘way of life’ for all mankind.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 185:

Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was sent down: this Book is a Perfect Guidance for mankind and consists of clear Teachings which show the Right Way, and are a Criterion of the Truth and falsehood.

But because the Quran are the Very Words of the Lord All-Mighty, they overflow in the sublime Message of Blessings and Mercy for those who accept and submit to its guidance.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 10 Surah Yunus verse 57:

57 O mankind! There hath come to you a direction (The Quran) from your Lord and a healing for the (diseases) in your hearts and for those who believe a Guidance and a Mercy.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 17 Surah Israa verse 82:

82 We send down (stage by stage) in the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe: to the unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 41 Surah Fusselat verse 44:

44 Had We sent this as a Qur'an (in a language) other than Arabic they would have said: "Why are not its verses explained in detail? What? (A Book) not in Arabic and (a Messenger) an Arab?" Say: "It is a guide and a healing to those who believe; and for those who believe not there is a deafness in their ears and it is blindness in their (eyes); they are (as it were) being called from a place far distant!"

Allah Subhanah Declares that the Quran is a ‘healing for the diseases in your hearts’; but the diseases referred to here are the spiritual diseases of disbelief, polytheism, hyprocisy, etc. and not the physical diseases like cancer, etc.

There is no person who ever walked on this planet earth who understood and implemented the commands of the Glorious Quran better than the person of the Noble Messenger of Allah (saws). When anyone has a physical ailment, the Messenger of Allah (saws) recommended that they keep their trust in Allah and get treatment by the best medical expert of their times… never did it happen that he (saws) would cure the physical ailments of the believers by reciting the Surah Fatihah or any other Surah from the Quran!

There is absolutely no doubt that the Quran is full of Blessings and Mercy and Healing of the spiritual diseases of mankind for those who believe in it; but it does not behove the believers, from themselves, to assign a particular Surah or Surahs as a remedy for a particular disease when such a remedy is not endorsed by the Messenger of Allah (saws).

Your Question: and took reward of goats? Is there sound evidence from authenticated hadiths? One of the brother claim to me that i dont believe that Sahaba(ra) and prophet(saw) took reward of goats for curing a person effected by insect bite by Surah Fatiha? What is the reality of the matter?

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 7.632 Narrated by Abu Said Al Khudri

Some of the companions of the Prophet (saws) came across a tribe amongst the tribes of the Arabs, and that tribe did not entertain them. While they were in that state, the chief of that tribe was bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion). They said, (to the companions of the Prophet), "Have you got any medicine with you or anybody who can treat with Ruqya?" The Prophet's (saws) companions said, "You refuse to entertain us, so we will not treat (your chief) unless you pay us for it." So they agreed to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them (the Prophet's (saws) companions) started reciting Surat-al-Fatiha and gathering his saliva and spitting it (at the snake-bite). The patient got cured and his people presented the sheep to them, but they said, "We will not take it unless we ask the Prophet (saws) (whether it is lawful)." When they asked him, he (saws) smiled and said, "How do you know that Surat-al-Fatiha is a Ruqya? Take it (flock of sheep) and assign a share for me."

The above is indeed considered an authentic narration, but before one uses the above hadith as a general permission of granting amulets and reciting charms, one should keep in view the conditions under which the companions of the Noble Prophet (saws) took this course of action. The conditions in Arabia in those days were that settlements were situated hundreds of miles apart, and there were no hotels or restaurants where a traveler could buy food and provisions when he reached one of these settlements on his journeys. Under such conditions it was considered a moral duty that when a traveler reached a settlement, the people of the place should extend their hospitality to him. Refusal on their part in many cases meant death for the travelers, and this was looked upon as highly blameworthy amongst the hospitable Arab culture.

Since the people of the pagan tribe refused the companions of the Prophet (saws) hospitality, they too refused to treat the chief of the pagan tribe in his affliction unless the people offered them some provisions in return whereby they would be able to safeguard their onward journey. Then when one the companions of the Prophet (saws) with his full trust on Allah Subhanah recited the Surah Fatihah over the chief of the pagan tribe and he became well, the pagans gave them their promised wages.

One thing that naturally happened in the course of this action of the companions is the impression of superiority of the Truth of Allah’s Words over every other kind of enchanting the pagans used to perform when afflicted with a calamity; and the other thing that happened naturally and incidentally was that the people of the tribe were conveyed and made aware of the Divine Message of the Quran. Thus it was under such a specific and peculiar situation whereby the Holy Prophet (saws) allowed that the wages offered by the pagan tribe for the recitation of the Quran be accepted as lawful and pure.

This one specific incident cannot and should not be taken as a general permission to practice enchantments and the wearing of amulets, etc.; for other than this one specific incident it was never the general practice of the Prophet (saws) or his noble companions to practice ‘Ruqya’ (enchantments or wearing amulets, etc) when afflicted with a calamity, but rather they always kept their full trust in Allah Subhanah and cured their ailments through the available ‘asbaabs’ or channels.

In contrast to this one particular incident, there are several authentic hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (saws) which specifically prohibit enchantments and the wearing of amulets when seeking relief from ailments. The correct and righteous way would be to keep one’s full trust in Allah Subhanah, seek His help alone, and utilize the available ‘asbaabs’ or medical channels to cure the affliction.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 3 Surah Ale Imraan verse 160:

If Allah helps you none can overcome you: if He forsakes you who is there after that that can help you? In Allah then let believers put their trust.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 33 Surah Ahzaab verse 3:

And put your trust in Allah Alone; and enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 9 Surah Taubah verse 51:

Say: "Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us: He is our Protector"; and on Allah let the believers put their trust.

Uqbah ibn 'Amir narrates that the Messenger of Allah (saws) said: "If anyone wears an amulet, may Allah not help him in fulfilling his wish. If anyone wears a sea-shell around his neck, may Allah give him no peace."

Narrated by Ahmad and Al-Hakim.

It is reported from Ibn Mas'ud that once, when he entered to his home, he noticed his wife wearing a knotted object round her neck. He took it away and broke it. Then he remarked: 'The family of Abdullah has become so arrogant that they now associate with Allah those for whom He has sent down no authority.' I have heard the Messenger of Allah (saws) saying: 'Verily, incantations, amulets, and love charms are acts of shirk (associating false gods with Allah).' The people said: 'O Abu Abdullah! We are familiar with incantations and amulets, but what is a love charm (altawlah)'?' He replied: 'It is a sort of magical formula by which women sought to gain their husbands' love'." (Related by Al-Hakim and Ibn Hibban).

Imran ibn Hasin reports that the Messenger of Allah (saws) saw a man wearing a bracelet of copper on his arm. The Prophet (saws) exclaimed to him: 'Woe be to you!' What is this? ' The man replied: 'I am suffering from weakness (al-wahinah).' (Al-wahinah is a disease that causes pain in the shoulders and hands. The man was wearing a copper bracelet believing it would relieve his pain and suffering). The Prophet (saws) prohibited him from wearing it because he regarded it as an amulet. The Prophet (saws) said: 'It will give you nothing but pain. Throw it away. Had you died while wearing it, you would never have achieved salvation'." (Narrated by Ahmad)

Isa ibn Hamza said: I went to see Abdullah ibn Hakim and his face was red due to high fever. I said to him: 'Why don't you use an amulet?' He said: 'We seek refuge with Allah from it. The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: "Whoever wears anything as an amulet will be entrusted to it". (Narrated by Abu Daw'ud)

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and sincere well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
