Gelatin permissible or not
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's
Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
YOU DID'NT ANSWER MY QUESTION, I ASKED WEATHER IT WILL BE OKAY AS
IT IS FOR MEDICAL PURPOSES.
As slam alykum.
i have been prescibed tablets by my doctor for my acne problem. However on
closer inspection of the ingredients i have found out that they contain Gelatin
(which to the best of my knowledge is derived from cows and pigs), my question
is: would it be okay to take these pills as they are for medical purposes?
thank you, your brother

Answer:
Gelatin
permissible or not
In the
name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness.
Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray,
none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no
person, no grave, no prophet, no imam,
no dai, nobody!) worthy of
worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His
slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
If the
ingredient ‘gelatin’ is present in the medicine, and because there is equal
probability that gelatin is a derivative of the extracts from swine; it would
not be permissible in Islam to use this medicine. It would be prudent to immediately consult
your doctor and request him to prescribe an alternative medicine for your ailment.
Whatever
written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance,
and whatever of error is of me. Allah
Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
Your Brother in Islam,
Burhan
