One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:
I have had a portfolio in the stock market for nearly two years, and I did not know that I had to pay zakaah. What should I do and how should I pay zakaah?.

Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly:

In the answer to question no. 69912 there is a detailed discussion on paying zakaah on shares. Please read it to find out whether you have to pay zakaah on these shares or not.

Secondly:

If you have to pay zakaah and those who are in charge of the shares are paying the zakaah on the shares, then you do not have to pay it again.

If they are not paying it, then you have to pay it for the past years.

And Allaah knows best.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah's Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
