Hijab mandatory
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
(May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
I was
browsing through this wonderful site and found a verse, 49:12 where Muslims are
forbidden to judge/assume negatively/be suspicious. I was wondering, if a woman
does not wear hijab do we hold negative assumptions about her since she doesn`t
follow a mandatory law?
(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors
in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions,
comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in

Answer:
Hijab mandatory
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His
help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and
whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness
that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter
24 Surah Noor verse 31:And (O Prophet) enjoin the believing
women to restrain their gaze and guard their private parts, and not
to display their adornment except that which is displayed of
itself; and to draw their veils over their bosoms, and
not display their adornment except before their husbands, their
fathers, the fathers of their husbands, … (until the end of
the aayah).
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter
33 Surah Ahzaab verse 59:O Prophet, enjoin your wives and
daughters, and the women of the believers that they should let down over their
persons a part of their outer-garments. It is expected that
they will thus be recognized and not molested.
It is the command of
Allah to the believing women to wear the ‘hijaab’ or veil over themselves, and
every women, who sincerely fears Allah and the Last Day, must obey this command
of Allah Subhanah.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 4 Surah
Nisaa verses 13-14:
13 Those are limits set by Allah: those who obey Allah and His
Messenger will be admitted to Gardens with rivers flowing beneath to abide
therein (for ever); and that will be the Supreme Achievement.
14 But those who disobey Allah and His Messenger and transgress His limits
will be admitted to a Fire to abide therein: and they shall have a humiliating
punishment.
Dear and beloved brother in Islam, the guidance of the
Glorious Quran is extremely clear….if one obeys and follows the guidance and
Commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws) one will be shown Mercy; and if one
intentionally disobeys the Commands and guidance of Allah and His Messenger
(saws), they will have an extremely severe accounting in the Presence of their
Majestic Lord on that Inevitable and Tumultuous Day of Judgment!
Now to answer
your specific question:
My dear beloved brother in Islam, we are commanded by
Allah swt among other things not to hurt people's feelings by our utterances,
either in front of them or behind their backs.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter
49 Surah Hujuraat verse 12: O ye who
believe! Avoid suspicion as much (as possible): for
suspicion in some cases is a sin: and spy not on each other, nor speak
ill of each other behind their backs. Would any of you
like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay ye would abhor
it...but fear Allah: for Allah is Oft-Returning Most Merciful.
If a sister believer does not adorn a hijab we should not
harbor any negative feelings for her this action, ever though she is breaking a
direct command from Allah swt.
She will be solely responsible for her deeds and
answerable to our Majestic Lord on that inevitable Day. However, if the lady is
ones mehram and he/she feels they can make a difference in her attitude by
reminding her of her obligations, there is no harm if with hikmah and humility
you advise her of her indulgence in the abomination.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only
due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is only ones.
Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
