Assign the name Ahad

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalamualaikum Brother,

I have a little query regarding Uswa-e-Hasana. I want to name my son as AHAD but most of my elders are of the view that the complete name should be Abdul Ahad instead of Ahad, reason being the same is one of the attributes of ALLAH SWT mentioned in Uswa-e-Hasana. Kindly guide me with your expert opinion.

Answer:

Assign the name Ahad

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Indeed the name and term ‘Ahad’ (The One and Only) is an Exclusive Attribute and Name of Allah Subhanah, and it would not be appropriate for a believer to name their off-spring with a name that is Exclusive to Allah Subhanah.

If one wishes to include the term ‘Ahad’ in the name they assign for their off-spring, then they should name their child ‘Abdul-Ahad’ (slave- servant of The One and Only) which would not only be appropriate but considered a very good name.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
