Is the prophet alive and knows what is happening ?

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Salaam Alaikum Burhan Bhai,

The crux of the question, if I may say so, was (based on Ayat 117 of Al Maida), as Imaam of the Prophets (peace be upon them all), is Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) (1) Alive in his grave (2) Does He (pbuh) know what is happening on earth after his death?, particularly since it is evident that Jesus would say that he had no knowledge of the same. Thanks for all the details you have given, appreciate if you are specific about this.

Answer:

Is the prophet alive and knows what is happening ?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Q-1: is Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) (1) Alive in his grave

Prophet Mohamed (saws) died a natural death, and his family and noble companions buried him with honor in his grave after his death! It is absolutely against the principles of Islam to believe that Prophet Mohamed (saws) or any other person is alive in his grave!

Q-2: Does He (pbuh) know what is happening on earth after his death?

Prophet Mohamed (saws) does not know what is happening on this earth after his death! When the Prophet (saws) was alive, he did not possess the knowledge of the ‘unseen’, unless specifically told of the ‘unseen’ by Allah Subhanah; for no one in this universe possesses the knowledge of the ‘unseen’ except Allah Subhanah.

To believe that Prophet Mohamed (saws) has the power to be aware of everything that is happening on this earth after his death, or to believe that he has the power to hear our supplications and respond to them, is to raise him to the rank of Allah Subhanah, Who Alone is The All-Knowing, The All-Seeing, The All-Hearing, and The Only One Aware of all things! If one raises any of Allah’s creation to the rank of All-Knowing, All-Seeing, All-Hearing or any of Allah Subhanah’s Exclusive Attributes, then he will be guilty of committing the heinous and unforgivable crime of ‘shirk’!

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
