Answer:
When was zakah
started
In the name of Allah,
We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah
guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide
them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah
Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the
seal of His Messengers.
The acts of worship like
‘salaah’ (prayers), ‘saum’ (fasting), sacrifice, and ‘zakaah’ (charity) have
been a solemn practice of every ‘Shariah’ given to every single Prophet of
Allah Subhanah, including the Last and Final Messenger of Allah, Prophet
Muhammad (saws).
Although the giving of ‘sadaqah’
or charity was ordained unto the Prophet Mohamed (saws) and his Ummah from the
very beginning of the advent of Prophet Mohamed (saws) to the office of Prophethood,
the scholars are unanimous in their opinion that ‘zakaat’ or mandatory charity
unto the believers was ordained in the 2nd year after Hijrah. And Allah Alone Knows Best.
Whatever written of
Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever
of error is of me alone. Allah Alone
Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
