Answer:

Awais qami broke teeth

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Hadrat Awais Qarni (r.a.) was from the tribe of ‘Qarni’ from the Yemen. Although he never migrated to Madinah and never met the Prophet (saws) himself, he had accepted Islam; and the one and only reason he did not come to Madinah and meet the Prophet (saws) was because he had an abjectly old mother whose service he did not wish to leave. The Messenger of Allah (saws) appreciated and accepted the excuse of Hadrat Awais Qarni (r.a.) and included him amongst his companions, even though the two actually never ever met in person.

As much as Hadrat Awais Qarni (r.a.) is honored, respected, and included as one amongst the noble companions of the Messenger of Allah (saws), there is absolutely no evidence in the authentic or established Sunnah or in the records of history that he broke his teeth in the Yemen when he heard that the teeth of Allah’s Messenger (saws) has been injured and broken during the Battle of Uhud.

Had the breaking of one’s teeth oneself after the episode that occurred with the Prophet (saws) in Uhud considered a virtue in Islam, the companions closest to the Prophet (saws) like Hadrat Abu Bakr (r.a.), Hadrat Umar (r.a.), Hadrat Uthmaan (r.a.), Hadrat Ali (r.a.), etc. too would have broken their teeth to earn the Pleasure of Allah and His Messenger (saws)….but there is absolutely no record of such an occurrence.

And Allah Alone Knows Best.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
