Which date to marry.

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Salaam,

My question is, that we Muslims before deciding the month and date of marriage, should consult the Islamic calender.

I mean what is the proper Islamic way to decide for the marriage date.
With Allah`s (SWT) will i am planning to get married in August 2008, although i wish i could get married asap.

Please advise.

Answer:

Which date to marry

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The only times a believer is prohibited from contracting marriage are:

  1. When one is in the state of ‘ehraam’ during the Umrah or Hajj pilgrimage, or,
  2. Until the divorced or widowed woman has completed her days of ‘iddah’.

Other than the above two restrictions, one is permitted to contract their marriage at any time of the calendar year. Allah and His Messenger (saws) have not recommended a specific day or a specific month which is better than any other day or month of the calendar year for contracting a marriage.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
