What books can you recommend for me to give her so she can learn about ALLAH as well as the deen.
Mu' meneen
Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa
Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be
upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters
has asked this question:
As Salaam Aleikum wa
Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah`s
Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon you for the great work that you do.)
Brother Burhan,
I have two
questions for you:
I have been dating
a young lady for a few years now and she indicated That
she wants to convert to Islam. She is slowly learning some prayers on a
regular basis. I just found out that she does not even believe in GOD.
What books can you
recommend for me to give her so she can learn about
ALLAH as well as the deen.
Alhamdullilah, I don't drink
alcohol, and I need to explain that this is Haram to
my kids. What pointers can you give me to tell them about the don'ts of
alcohol and if you can also tell me what our Shariah
says about it.
Thanking you in
advance.
Your brother

Answer:
Islamic books
In the name of Allah, We praise
Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can
misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We
bear witness that there is no one (no idol,
no person, no grave, no
prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone,
and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of
His Messengers.
Beloved brother, you have not asked us about the issue of ‘dating’
in Islam, but it is our duty to let you
know that it is absolutely prohibited in Islam for a believer, who sincerely believes in Allah and the Last
Day, to form an illicit relationship
with a non-mehram woman.
If someone has shown interest in converting to Islam, prayers are not the first thing that needs to be taught to them. Islam is not a religion or deen of some rites and rituals alone, but rather it is a complete and perfect Way of Life approved by the Merciful Creator. The guidance of Islam should first appeal to the faculty of intellect and reasoning, and once that is accomplished, the performing of prayers, etc. is something which is a natural and willing result of this belief. Thus first, the person must be explained and made to understand, recognize, and believe in the Creator through His Innumerable Signs, His Messengers, His Angels, His Books, the Concept of the Hereafter, and the concept of the Creator’s Divine Decrees. The above six things constitute faith or ‘emaan’, and once that is accomplished, explained and accepted; the rest is extremely easy.
The absolute best Book, in our
humble opinion, cannot be any other than the very words of wisdom that the
Merciful has Himself sent for our Guidance; the Al-Quran. There is no better Book for a person who
wants to understand Islam, than this Divine Book of the Lord and Creator of all
things.
Your Question: Alhamdullilah, I
don't drink alcohol, and I need to explain that this is
Haram to my kids. What pointers can you give me to tell them about the don'ts
of alcohol and if you can also tell me what our Shariah
says about it.
Allah says in the Holy
Quran Chapter 5 Surah Maidah
verses 93-94: O ye who believe!
Intoxicants,
and gambling, (dedication
of) stones, and (divination by)
arrows, are an abomination of Satan's
handiwork: eschew such (abomination)
that ye may prosper. Satan's plan is (but) to
excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder
you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer: will ye not then abstain?
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 2776 Narrated by Anas
ibn Malik
Allah's Messenger
(saws) invoked the curse of Allah on ten people in connection with wine: the wine-presser, the one who has it pressed,
the one who drinks it, the one who conveys it, the one to whom it is conveyed,
the one who serves it, the one who sells it, the one who benefits from the
price paid for it, the one who buys it, and the one for whom it is bought.
Beloved brother in Islam, it is
our duty to translate this Truth into our children that it is Allah Who created
us, and everything else that is in existence; and He Alone created the nature
of each of His creation. Thus, He Alone
knows what is best for His creation.
Whatever Allah has permitted, has to be good; and whatever He has
forbidden has to be evil; simply because all of Allah’s Decisions are based on
His Absolute and Perfect Wisdom. Once
our children are brought up to respect the commands of Allah Subhanah, then following them would be the next natural step.
The evils of alcohol are many:
man looses his senses and judgment between right and wrong and has no control over
himself and his actions if he drinks heavily,
destructive to his body and his nervous system, and spreads enmity and hatred between human
beings, etc. And above all, Allah and His Messenger (saws) have commanded the
believers to abstain from it and all its manifestations!
If we create an environment
whereby we hate this evil drink, and we guide our children to hate this evil in
its essence; we will be able to build the hatred between our children and this
source of all evils!
Even if one does not consume
intoxicants, but intoxicants are constantly served and used in his presence, or
he goes to gatherings where alcohol is freely served; it is obvious that the
children will assume that intoxicants are acceptable to elders and to society,
and will not be able to build a resistance towards it! Only if we seriously treat this evil of
society as evil, will our children be able to recognize it as evil.
Whatever written of Truth and
benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error
is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He
is the Only Source of Strength.
Your Brother in Islam,
Burhan
