Answer:

Punishment for Adultery

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Fornication (sexual engagement between an unmarried man and women) is a crime which is punishable by 100 lashes each. Adultery (the act of sexual engagement with another, when the person is already married) is a capital offense in Shariah and punishable by death! Both these punishments are the retribution a God fearing muslim society exacts from the individuals for spreading immorality in a muslim society.

The punishment a muslim society takes does not in itself constitute regret or repentance of the individual, unless the person himself turns to Allah and seeks sincere Taubah and repentance, and feels regret for the evil deed he/she has done in ignorance. If the person seeks sincere taubah and repentance, Allah has promised in the Glorious Quran to forgive him, and purify him from his sins.

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 39 Surah Zumar verse 53-54:(O Prophet) say, “O My servants who have wronged their own souls: Do not despair of Allah’s Mercy for surely Allah forgives all sins. He is indeed the All Forgiving, All Merciful. Return to your Lord (in repentance) and submit to Him before the scourge overtakes you, and then you may get no help from anywhere.”

Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 25 Surah Furqaan verses 68-71: (The true servants of the Merciful are those) who do not invoke any god but Allah, nor unjustly kill a soul which Allah has forbidden, nor commit ‘zina’. He who does this shall be punished for his sin, and his torment shall be doubled on the Day of Resurrection where he shall abide in a state of ignominy; except the one who may have repented (after those sins), and have believed and does righteous good deeds, for then Allah will change his evil deeds into good deeds, for Allah is very Forgiving and Merciful. In fact, the one who repents and does righteous good deeds returns to Allah as one rightly should.

There is absolutely no harm if a person who committed adultery in ignorance marries a chaste women (or man) after he/she has sincerely repented to Allah Subhanah; for sincere repentance indeed wipes away all their prior evil deeds. This is the magnanimous mercy of our Merciful Lord.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
