One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
what happens
at time of death and in Kabar. I have heard that at time of death we loose our
power of speech and at that time we see our deeds as flash back. The soul
remains in house for 3 days. The soul follows the janaza. In kabar the soul
again enter the body and is then question for 3 days. How far this is true?
pls give

Answer:
What happens after
death
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that
there is no one (no idol, no person, no
grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Dear and Beloved brother, whatever happens after death, in
the grave, on the Day of Judgment, etc. is what is known as the knowledge of
the ‘unseen’; and none possesses the Knowledge of the unseen except Allah
Subhanah, the Lord of the Worlds, Alone.
Thus to know what exactly transpires after death or in the grave, we
must rely on only what is Declared by the All-Knowing Lord in His Glorious
Quran, or what Allah Subhanah made known to Prophet Mohamed (saws) through
inspiration, and he (saws) narrated it to the believers in his authentic
traditions.
Your Question: what
happens at time of death and in Kabar
Ref: at the time of death:
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 1627 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah
The Prophet (saws) said, "The Angels are
present with one who dies, and if a
believer dies, they say, 'Come out,
good soul, which was in the good
body; come out praiseworthy and be happy
with rest and provision and a Lord Who is not angry.' That continues to be said to it till it
comes out. It is then taken up to
Heaven and the door is opened for
it. The angels are asked who this is and
reply that he is so and so, whereupon these words are spoken: 'Welcome, good soul, which was in the good body; enter
praiseworthy and be happy with rest and provision and a Lord Who is not angry.' That continues to be said to it till it
comes to the Heaven where Allah is. But
when it is a disbeliever it is said,
'Come out, wicked soul, which was
in the wicked body; come out blameworthy
and be grieved by a boiling liquid, one dark and intensely cold, and other kinds of its type.' That continues to be said to it till it
comes out. It is then taken up to Heaven,
and the door is asked to be opened for it.
The question will be asked who this is and the reply given that it is so
and so, whereupon these words are spoken:
'There is no welcome for the wicked soul which was in the wicked
body; go back blameworthy, for the gates of Heaven will not be opened
for you.' It will then be sent away
from Heaven and come to the grave."
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 8 Surah
Anfaal verses 50-51:
50 If thou couldst see when the Angels take the souls of the
unbelievers (at death) (how) they smite their faces and their backs (saying):
"Taste the penalty of the blazing fire
51 Because of (the deeds) which your (own) hands sent forth: for Allah
is never unjust to His servants.”
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 47 Surah
Muhammad verses 27-28
27 But how (will it be) when the Angels take their souls at death and
smite their faces and their backs?
28 This because they followed that which called forth the Wrath of
Allah and they hated Allah's good pleasure; so He made their deeds of no
effect.
Ref: in the grave:
Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4735 Narrated byAl-Bara' ibn Azib
The Prophet (saws) said: “When a believer is buried in the grave two
angels will come to him (Munkar and Nakir,
both have dark faces and blue eyes),
make him sit up, and ask : ‘Who is your Lord?’ He will reply: ‘My Lord is Allah.’ They will ask him: ‘What is your religion?’ He will reply: ‘My religion is Islam.’ They will ask him: ‘What is your opinion about the man who was
sent on a mission among you?’ He will
reply: ‘He is the Messenger of Allah
(peace be upon him).’ They will ask: ‘
Who made you aware of this?’ He will
reply: ‘I read Allah's Book, believed in
it, and considered it true.’ Then a
crier will call from Heaven: ‘My servant
has spoken the truth. So spread a bed
for him from Paradise, clothe him from
Paradise, and open a door for him into
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 5352 Narrated by Abu Sa'id
The Prophet (saws) said: "The grave (or the life of the soul
between one’s death and one’s resurrection on the Day of Judgment) is one of
the Gardens of Paradise, or one of the pits of Hell!"
Your Statement: I
have heard that at time of death we loose our power of speech and at that time
we see our deeds as flash back.
Allah Alone Knows what exactly happens to man just at the
time his soul departs from his physical body; for no man whose soul has
departed from his body ever lived to narrate his exact experience!
It is safe to assume that man would lose his ‘power of
speech’ along with the loss of all his other physical senses as the soul starts
to depart from his physical self. To the
best of our knowledge, there is absolutely no mention in the Quran or the
Sunnah that at the time of death, one is shown all his deeds as ‘flash back’.
But indeed, without an iota of a doubt, man will be shown
all his deeds, good and evil, on that Inevitable Day of Jugdement.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 99 Surah
Zalzalah verses 6-8:
6 On that Day (of Resurrection) will men proceed in companies sorted
out, to be shown the Deeds that they (had done).
7 Then anyone who has done an atom's weight
of good shall see it!
8 And anyone who has done an atom's weight
of evil shall see it.
Your Question: The
soul remains in house for 3 days.
There is absolutely no mention of the soul remaining in
one’s house for a period of three days in either the Quran or the Sunnah!
Your Question: soul
follows the janaza.
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 47 Surah
Muhammad verses 27-28
27 But how (will it be) when the Angels take their souls at death
and smite their faces and their backs?
28 This because they followed that which called forth the Wrath of
Allah and they hated Allah's good pleasure; so He made their deeds of no
effect.
Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4735 (part) Narrated byAl-Bara' ibn Azib
At the death of the unbeliever his soul
will be restored to his body in the grave. Then two angels will come to him. They will
make him sit up and ask him: ‘Who is
your Lord?’ He will reply: ‘Alas, alas! I do not know.’ They will ask him: ‘What is your religion?’ He will reply: ‘Alas, alas! I do not know.’ They will ask: ‘Who was the man who was sent on a mission
among you?’ He will reply: ‘Alas, alas! I do not know.’
In light of the guidance quoted above, the soul is taken
by the Angel of Death and returned to the body in the grave at the time of
questioning; thus it would be incorrect to believe that the soul follows the
‘janaza’ or the burial.
Your Question: In
kabar the soul again enter the body and is then question for 3 days.
The soul is indeed restored back into the body in the
grave at the time of the questioning by the Angels Nakir and Munkar. To the best of our knowledge, there is no
time limit declared in the Quran and the Sunnah for exactly how long this
questioning session of the Angels Nakir and Munkar lasts; and Allah Subhanah
Alone Knows Best.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.
