CAN WE PERFORM UMRAH ON BEHALF OF ANOTHER PERSON WHO IS ALIVE AND NOT BEEN ABLE TO VISIT THE HOUSE OF ALLAH.
Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,
As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa
Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)
One of our brothers/sisters has asked
this question:
CAN WE
PERFORM UMRAH ON BEHALF OF ANOTHER PERSON WHO IS ALIVE AND NOT BEEN ABLE TO
VISIT THE HOUSE OF ALLAH.

Answer:
Umrah for another
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that
there is no one (no idol, no person, no
grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
The Umrah pilgrimage is a Sunnah and not at all an
obligatory duty unto the believers; thus if one is alive but does not have the
physical and the financial ability to perform the pilgrimage, there is
absolutely no obligation upon him to do so.
But if one is alive and has the financial means but does
not posses the physical means to perform the Umrah pilgrimage, there is
absolutely no harm if the person finances another person to perform the Umrah
pilgrimage on his/her behalf. Or if
one’s loved one is old and has made intention to perform the Umrah but is
unable to do so, there is absolutely no harm if their children or a loved one
performs the pilgrimage on their behalf.
Sunan of Abu-Dawood
Hadith 1806 Narrated by Abu Razin
A man of Banu Amir
said: “O Messenger of Allah (saws), my father is very old, he cannot perform
Hajj and Umrah himself, nor can be ride
on a mount.” He (saws) said: “Perform Hajj and Umrah on behalf of
your father.”
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.

Islam,
