Severe loss in business

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person,  no grave, no prophet,  no imam,  no dai,  nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 17 Surah Israa verse 30:

30      Verily thy Lord does provide sustenance in abundance for whom He Pleases and He provides in a just measure (for whom He Pleases): for He does know and regard all His servants.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 13 Surah Raad verse 26:

26      Allah does enlarge or grant by (strict) measure the Sustenance (which He gives) to whom so He Pleases.  (The worldly) rejoice in the life of this world: but the life of this world is but little comfort in the Hereafter.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 29 Surah Ankabut verse 62:

62      Allah enlarges the sustenance (which He gives) to whichever of His servants He pleases; and He (similarly) grants by (strict) measure (as He pleases): for Allah has full knowledge of all things.

Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.315         Narrated by Anas bin Malik

The Prophet said, "At every womb Allah appoints an Angel who says, 'O Lord! A drop of semen, O Lord! A clot. O Lord! A little lump of flesh."  Then if Allah wishes (to complete) its creation, the Angel asks, (O Lord!) Will it be a male or female, a wretched or a blessed, how much will its provision be, and what will its age be?' So all that is written while the child is still in the mother's womb."

In light of the above clear guidance of the Quran and the Sunnah, how much a person will be worth and how much a person earns has nothing to do with the acts, deeds, or capabilities of a person!  It is Allah Subhanah Alone Who Decides, Determines, and Decrees the provision of each amongst His creation at the time of his birth!  Allah is our witness, none can increase or decrease his or any other’s wealth by himself; this distribution of wealth is in the sole domain and control of none, except Allah Subhanah, The Lord of the Worlds, Alone!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 76 Surah Insaan verses 2-3:

2        Verily We created man from a drop of mingled sperm in order to test him: so We gave him (the gifts) of hearing and sight.

3        We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will).

Allah Subhanah, in His Perfect Knowledge and Wisdom, has provided each amongst mankind its due sustenance only to test man whether one is grateful or ungrateful.  If Allah Subhanah has provided one with abundant sustenance and provision, he is being tested whether the person recognizes the favors of his Lord on him and is grateful or not; and if Allah Subhanah restricts his provision from one amongst his creation, the person is being tested whether he is patient with the Decree and Determination of his Lord or not.

The one who is provided with abundant sustenance and provision, if he recognizes and acknowledges the favors of his Lord on him, is grateful to his Lord, and spends of his wealth as guided by his Lord passes his test; but the one who refuses to acknowledge the favors of his Lord on him, becomes proud and arrogant because of his status or his wealth, and splurges of his wealth on buying the transient luxuries of this world without giving the poor their due, displays ungratefulness to his Lord and thus fails the test miserably!

Similarly the one who is tested with restriction or loss in his wealth, if he recognizes and acknowledges the favors of his Lord on him, knows that the coming and going of wealth is nothing more than a test from their Lord, is patient with the Decree and Decision of his Lord passes the test; but the one who moans and wails at the loss of his belongings, and blames everyone and everything around him for his loss, or becomes impatient in his provided test fails the trial from their Lord!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verses 155-157:

155    Be sure We shall test you with something of fear, and hunger, some loss in goods, or lives, or the fruits (of your toil); but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere.

156    Who say when afflicted with calamity: "To Allah we belong and to Him is our return."

157    They are those on whom (descend) blessings from Allah and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance.

Thus, my beloved sister in Islam, your state is no more than a test Decreed for you from your Lord to see whether you are patient and steadfast in your faith in Him or not.

Thus what you need to do now is recognize that you are being tested, keep your faith and your belief firm and steadfast in the Decrees of your Lord, be grateful to Him for all of His innumerable favors, and remain absolutely patient in these trying times keeping your faith absolutely firm in His Mercy, His Grace, and His Unending and Endless Bounties.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 35 Surah Fatir verse 2:

2        What Allah out of His Mercy doth bestow on mankind there is none who can withhold: what He doth withhold there is none who can grant apart from Him: and He is the Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom.

Beloved Sister, know with conviction that if everyone in creation got together to help you, they would not be able to remove your affliction; and if everyone in creation got together to harm you, they would not be able to harm you in the least!  Everything, absolutely everything, is in the Control and Power of our Lord, Allah Subhanah, Alone.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 14 Surah Ibraheem verses 7-8:

7        And remember! your Lord caused to be declared (publicly): "If ye are grateful I will add more (favors) unto you; but if ye show ingratitude truly My punishment is terrible indeed."

8        And Moses said: "If ye show ingratitude, you and all on earth together (no matter, for) Allah is Free of all wants, Worthy of all praise.”

My dear and beloved Sister, remain firm and steadfast in the Mercy of your Lord, constantly beseech and beg Him to make your affliction easy for you, implore Him in all humility and hope to remove your trial from you, be grateful at all times for His favors upon you, and remember Him in your times of good fortune and affliction.  It is expected He will remove your trials and open His Vast Doors of Mercy upon you.

Remain constant in your recitation of the Surah Al-Falak (113th) and Surah An-Naas (114th), the ‘Aayat-ul-Kursi’ or ‘The Verse of the Throne’ (Surah 2 Baqarah 255), and constantly supplicate your Lord in these words as taught by the Messenger of Allah (saws):

Fiqh-us-Sunnah Fiqh 4.131b

When One is in Debt

Ali related that a slave, who had agreed on terms of his freedom with his master, came to him and said, "I cannot pay my master as I agreed in the terms of freedom, so help me."  Ali said to him, "Let me teach you the supplication that the Prophet (saws) taught me. If you say it, Allah will cause your debt to be paid even if it be as great as a mountain. Say, 'O Allah, make Your lawful bounties sufficient for me so as to save me from what is unlawful, and from Your Grace grant me sufficient abundance to make me free from the need of all except You'."

(Allah humma akfini be halaaleka un haraamik, wa agnena min Fadhleka amman Sewaak.)
