Answer:
Names of the seven heavens
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask
for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever
He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there
is no one (no idol, no person, no grave,
no prophet, no imam, no dai,
nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that
Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Allah Subhanah mentions the
creation of the seven heavens in the Glorious Quran time and again, but to the
best of our knowledge there are no names assigned to each of the seven heavens;
neither in the Glorious Quran nor in the authentic Sunnah of the Messenger of
Allah.
Even in hadiths relating the ascension of the Prophet
(saws) to the heavens with Hadrat Jibrael (a.s.) on the Night of Mairaaj or
Night Journey, the heavens are not called by their names (if any!), but rather
by their number; the first heaven, second heaven, third heaven, etc.
Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 9.608 Narrated by Anas bin Malik
The night Allah's Messenger (saws) was taken
for a journey from the Sacred Mosque (of
The dwellers of the Heaven asked, "Who
is it?" He said, "Gabriel."
They said, "Who is accompanying you?" He said, "Muhammad (saws)." They
said, "Has he been called?" He
said, "Yes." They said, "He is welcomed." So the dwellers of the Heaven became pleased
with his (saws) arrival, and they did not know what Allah would do to the
Prophet (saws) on earth unless Allah informed them. The Prophet (saws) met Adam
over the nearest Heaven.
Gabriel said to the Prophet (saws), "He is your father; greet
him." The Prophet (saws) greeted him and Adam returned his greeting and
said, "Welcome, O my Son! O what a good son you are!"
.....Then Gabriel ascended with the Prophet
(saws) to the second Heaven and the Angels asked the same
questions as those on the first Heaven, i.e., "Who is
it?" Gabriel replied, "Gabriel." They asked, "Who is
accompanying you?" He said, "Muhammad (saws)." They asked,
"Has he been sent for?" He said, "Yes." Then they said, "He
is welcomed.” Then he (Gabriel) ascended with the Prophet (saws) to the third
Heaven, and the Angels said the same as the angels of the first
and the second Heavens had said.
…Then he ascended with him (saws) to the fourth
Heaven and they said the same; and then he ascended with him to the fifth
Heaven and they said the same; and then he ascended with him to the sixth
Heaven and they said the same; then he ascended with him to the seventh
Heaven and they said the same. On each Heaven there were Prophets whose names
he (saws) had mentioned and of whom I remember Idris on the second
Heaven, Aaron on the fourth Heaven, Abraham on the sixth
Heaven, and Moses on the seventh Heaven because of his privilege
of talking to Allah directly.
(please note that the parts of the hadith quoted above is a part of a very long
narration, but we have only quoted the parts which are relevant to your
question regarding the names of the seven heavens.)
Allah Subhanah Alone has the
Perfect and Exact Knowledge whether the seven heavens created by Him have been
assigned a specific name or not. When
Allah and His Messenger (saws) have not divulged the specific names (if any) of
the seven heavens to the believers, it does not behove the believers to assign
names for them from themselves.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to
Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only
Source of Strength.
