Meaning of Surah Yunus verses 80-82

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 10 Surah Yunus verses 80-82:

80 When the sorcerers came Moses said to them: "Throw ye what ye (wish) to throw!"

81 When they had their throw, Moses said: "What ye have brought is sorcery: Allah will surely make it of no effect: for Allah prospereth not the work of those who make mischief.

82 "And Allah by His Words doth prove and establish his Truth, however much the Sinners may hate it!"

The above Aayahs of Surah Yunus are a part of the story of the confrontation between Prophet Musa (a.s.) and the Pharaoh, who denied the appointment of Prophet Musa (a.s.) as a Messenger of Allah.

Allah Subhanah commanded Prophet Musa (a.s.) to go to the court of Pharaoh with His two Miracles: (1) when Prophet Musa (a.s.) threw his staff, it became a serpent, and (2) when Prophet Musa (a.s.) removed his hand from his side, it shone radiant white to the beholders. The evil Pharaoh denied these Signs of Allah Subhanah done at the hands of Prophet Musa (a.s.), and declared that Prophet Musa (a.s.) was showing some petty magic in his court. Pharaoh challenged Prophet Musa (a.s.) to a competition whereby he ordered all the best magicians on a determined Day of Festival, to defeat the miracles brought by Prophet Musa (a.s.).

Verse 80-82 of Surah Yunus gives an overview of that duel between Prophet Musa (a.s.) and the magicians gathered by the evil Pharaoh on the Day of Festival. When the duel started, Prophet Musa (a.s.) told the magicians to show or throw what magic they sought! The sorcerers threw their ropes or their rods and created a great magic indeed, but when Prophet Musa (a.s.) threw his staff, it swallowed up the magic thrown by the sorcerers and they were humbled!

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 7 Surah Aaraaf verses 116-119:

116 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic.

117 We put it into Moses's mind by inspiration: "throw (now) thy rod": and behold! It swallows up straightway all the falsehoods which they fake!

118 Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect.

119 So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
