one of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Salaam to all,

I want to know about pork in Islam.  Also if any muslim eats pork what are the consequences?  I was of the understanding that if any muslim eats pork o r drinks alcohol he or she can't pray or fast for 40 days.  Could you shed light on this.  Does it hold true for all muslims. Thank you

Was salaam

Answer:

Muslim eat pork

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Alcohol and pork, both have been declared haraam by Allah and His Messenger (saws). If anyone intentionally consumes either alcohol or pork or any other ‘haraam’ product, he/she would have disobeyed the commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws); and will have to give a severe accounting in the Court of Allah on the Day of Judgement, for breaking one of the laws of Allah Subhanah.

If one consumes alcohol or pork, or any other forbidden product in Islam, he should immediately make ‘taubah’ or repentance to Allah; for Allah, the All Merciful forgives all sins through repentance. And true ‘Taubah’ is that one feels sorry for breaking the command of Allah, repents sincerely, and makes a promise to Allah Subhanah that he will not do such a thing again. It is expected that Allah will be Merciful towards the person and forgive his sin.

Your Statement: I was of the understanding that if any muslim eats pork or drinks alcohol he or she can't pray or fast for 40 days.  Could you shed light on this.  Does it hold true for all muslims.

There is no such consequence of prayer not being accepted for 40 or any number of days, if one consumes anything haraam like pork or alcohol. This consequence is not mentioned in the Holy Quran or the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (saws), thus it cannot be from the teachings of Allah and His Messenger (saws).

There are some things in Islam which Allah and His Messenger (saws) have commanded the believers to do. Whoever does these things will receive the good-pleasure and reward of Allah. Then there are a few things which Allah and His Messenger (saws) have commanded the believers to abstain and stay away from (eg. Alcohol and pork). Whoever stays away from them, will receive the good pleasure and reward from Allah; and whoever disregards the commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws) and does or consumes the ‘haraam’, he will be liable to give a severe reckoning for dis-obeying the commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws).

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
