Answer:
Delay in marriage
In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.
Sister the right thing to do is to approach or find somebody from the family to approach your would be in-laws and find out their real reason for delaying the marriage. There can be no known reasons for delaying a marriage for 4 years or longer. Get your father to give them a reasonable deadline after which you should make a decision and seek a proposal elsewhere. There will be no sin upon you whatsoever. In Islam the engagement does not hold any relevance. There is no requirement for an engagement as such. It is the nikah which is important.
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is only ones. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
