Atonement or 'dumm' sacrifice not cut hair: do i have to give damm??

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Assalam o aliakum, we performed Umrah a few month ago & immediately afterwards we left for Jeddah so that i did not cut my hair after performing Sa'ii in the haram, but i cut my hair in jeddah, is it alright or do i have to give damm??

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

Umrah dam

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The real issue is not whether you cut your hair after Umrah in Jeddah or in Makkah, but rather did you cut your hair before removing the 'ehram' or after it.

If you finished all the rites of Umrah, then left immediately afterwards for Jeddah without removing the 'ehram', and then cut your hair and thereafter removed the 'ehram', there is absolutely no harm....and no atonement or 'kaffarah' of a sacrfice is required.

But if after finishing all the rites of Umrah, you removed the 'ehram', and then cut your hair....indeed, an atonement or 'dumm' sacrifice would be required as one should not come out of the state of 'ehram' before shaving/cutting their hair.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is only ones. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brother and well wisher in Islam,

Burhan
