Can Allah create mountain he cannot lift

Mu' meneen Brothers and Sisters,

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.  (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

Can Allah create a moutain so large and so big, that he himself can not lift? no one has yet been able to answer this question of mine, which i admit does not originally come from me...simply because either answer (yes, or no) will contradict islamic beleifs. There are many other questions similar to this one which have the same self-contridictory aspect to them.

(There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement. The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality.)

Answer:

Can allah create mountain he cannot lift?

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is no one (no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody!) worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad(saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

The All-Mighty is He, Who does whatever He Wills! Neither is it difficult for Him to create the largest mountain; nor is it difficult for Him to lift the heaviest of things; if He Wills to do so!

If one wants to imagine the Power and Might of Allah Subhanah, he should contemplate this Aayah of the Holy Quran as Declared by Allah Subhanah Himself:

Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 39 Surah Zumar verse 67:These people (the disbelievers) have not recognized the True Worth of Allah, as His Worth should truly be recognized! (As for His Omnipotence) the entire Earth on the Day of Resurrection shall be in His Grasp, and the Heavens shall be rolled up in His Right Hand! Glorified and Far Exalted is He, above what they associate with Him.

Lifting the heaviest of mountains for the Being in Whose Right Hand will be the seven Heavens is too small a challenge even to consider!

Your Statement: simply because either answer (yes, or no) will contradict islamic beleifs.

If anything ‘contradicts’ the Truth of Islam or its belief, then it can obviously be nothing but falsehood; for falsehood alone cannot contradict the Truth!

Thus rather than searching for falsehoods to challenge the Truth, it would be prudent and wise for the person to give up his futile search, and submit to the Truth.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your Brother in Islam,

Burhan
