Wants to revert to marry muslim

As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May Allah's Peace, Mercy and Blessings be upon all of you)

One of our brothers/sisters has asked this question:

I am from a country that does not have divorce. I am separated with two children. I met a very good man who is a Muslim. He is very good and who takes care of me and my children. He wants to marry me but before I say yes to him I want to ask, if I convert to Islam to allow me to practice Islam with him, does it also allow me to marry him in a country not my birth place. I was married in a Christian religion but it does not allow divorce but only separation. I am a christian but wish to convert. He does not know my plans to convert but this is my way to be one with him. I need your advice.

Answer:

Wants to revert to marry muslim

In the name of Allah, We praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright. We bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah Alone, and we bear witness that Muhammad (saws) is His slave-servant and the seal of His Messengers.

Sister if you are living in an Islamic country then your marriage with a non-muslim can be annulled if you want to marry a Muslim. There is no restriction to get married in your birth place, you can marry wherever you desire.

But if you are not living in an Islamic country, you should find out through your lawyers for a solution to marry a Muslim man even though you are not divorced from your present marriage and only separated.

Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is only ones. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.

Your brothers and well wishers in Islam,
